But if you compare Rivers's demos of songs from that era to Weezer's final recordings, they are nigh identical, even for basslines. So Matt, to be clear, is 0% of the creative source of their music.
But it's also true that the perception of Weezer as singing with their tongue in their cheek, being clever and being ironic, was not true at all of Rivers, and was true of Matt. He added a lightheartedness and a humor to Rivers's sadsack sincerity.

It came across overly pandering at the time, so Lonely Girl, for example, I took as the token pre-Green- or early-album-5-demo-style track.
