How the fuck did you guys talk so much shit about Snyder only to underperform Man of Steel? Even without adjusting for inflation the new Superman failed to match Snyder’s debut. And people are still trying to spin it as a win and a victory over the Snydercultists? For shame.

The gap between MoS and Superman is less than what MoS made in China, a country that has basically soft banned capeshit altogether. Theater attendance and capeshit fatigue are also factors, and Trump made american coded movies like Superman automatic bombs in some parts of Asia and Europe. The movie did MUCH better than MoS in the US

The outcome was obvious from the start though. A manlet Superman was always going to end in failure because it´s conceptually a terrible idea. Not two ways around that.
Superman is meant to be the man of tomorrow, the light that leads the way into the future for regular people, aliens and heroes alike. For that he needs to be more than a man, he needs to be someone the others can follow, trust and believe in.
The flaws, the doubts, the fears... those humane traits are all meant to be private. Futhermore changing Jor El´s character only serves to confirm Luthor right. Regardless of Supes personal choice on the matter that still casts a shadow that breaks that pact. If you can´t unconditionally trust Superman you just can´t trust Superman. Specially if he constantly fucks up and all he has to offer are good intentions. That´s just not good enough.
So yeah, fuck that idea.

WB is notorious for astroturfing their movies and videogames (ask /v/)
Also, Gunn is a back. At least Snyder had some variation in his movies before he got too old and turned into a slacker/ran away his tard-wrangling talent when he moved to Netflix. Gunn makes the same movie over and over, always ensemble (sp?) casts.

I will admit that nothing Gunn says about his plans for the future of his DCU sounds interesting to me.

Batman's parents got murdered, but that's pretty socially acceptable revenge plot shit. He's not dark the way somebody like Rorschach is dark.
People don't understand that Snyder didn't like the typical monthly comics, he went for writers like Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Frank Miller, darker stories that focused on darker unique characters or darkening established characters. It's more likely he read Marvelman as inspiration for Man of Steel, mostly because he wanted to capture the mythic grandeur of someone of absolute power while also showing its darkest side.

Can't wait for Avengers Doomsday to be about how cool it is to eat your veggies and do your homework, and for Spiderman to be about the awesomeness of being careful when crossing the street.
You literally can't hold these two movies to the same standard of expectations, they were unironically released in two different worlds.
2013 was one year after Avengers, it was the peak of capeshit popularity, with people actually going to see movies. Man of Steel came out in these perfect favorable conditions and was a disappointment compared to its contemporaries: it made far less money than Iron Man 3 and Thor 2, two garbage movies that came out that same year and were widely regarded as the worst offerings of the MCU before the post-Endgame era sewage blew them out of the water.

the industry has shrunk a lot.

The funniest part of this whole thing is how completely inept the viral marketers are. Sure, they have a job to do, but man are they bad at it, and pathetic too. I thought jannies were losers but I can't imagine a sadder, stupider, less engaging, less effective waste of time and space than these guys. Shit, autists and trolls are doing better than them. And my favorite part is that they're trapped here, getting shit on over and over in all these threads, promoting whatever garbage theyre told to over and over, no end in sight. Like how do they go to bed at night? What kind of horrible existence are they living? I can't imagine a worse hell.

Based and truthpilled. Say what you will about Gunn, he understands what makes Americans love Superman. Soft in the middle, humble beginnings, and a burning need to do the right thing for the people that need it the most. Not the Christ imagery, bleak tone, and reckless bystander deaths of the Snyder movies. Superman isn't a god. He's an alien raised with American farm boy ethics and goodwill for men. It was not a perfect movie, but it was fun in a way most of the Snyderverse movies were not.
