Discerning the author's intention is interesting but it ultimately doesn't matter when analyzing the work. You should only work with what's in the text, not try to uncover some hidden meaning based on cryptic clues and the author's intentions.

She's not exactly a good example because those books were clearly substantially tuned up by a crew of editors at best and fully ghostwritten at worst. There are all sorts of literary and mythological allusions and archetypal references that based on hearing her speak I do not believe for a second she was aware enough of to put into her writing deliberately.
