I was going to recommend episode 209, weJ duJ, where they show lower-decks from several other spacefaring cultures. Glad to see that's #3 on the list! My memory is that it doesn't require very much knowledge of what came before it, so you can watch it on its own.
#9 is episode 208, "I, Excretus", which is a bottle episode, so that can also be watched by someone not familiar with the series.
If you want DS9 fanfiction, #4 is episode 306, "Hear All, Trust Nothing".
