>have method of murder that allows you to anonymously untraceably remotely kill anyone on the planet, via any method of your choosing , whenever you want, wherever you want, without even interacting with them, all you need is their name
>still get caught

He has a massive ego though.

The premise couldn't work nowadays. Neural networks could analyze your patterns and hunt you down within days.

There are no tv shows anymore

He didn't want to be entirely anonymous, he wanted everyone to know someone with divine power was killing everyone.

He was very retarded and squandered his advantage at every turn but L also made impossible logical leaps all the time. From the very jump L was referring to akira as "Him" when any logical actor would have certainly thought it was a government or organization of some kind. He was presupposing supernatural power immediately. Thats just one of many of these leaps. Still a great show though

>He was presupposing supernatural power immediately.
That genuinely wasn't a leap. What was happening was very clearly beyond known human technology and understanding.

nah you can't be a super logical detective guy and immediately start thinking a supernatural power is involved. Especially when a lot of the aims of programs like MK ultra would heavily coincide with what akira was doing. Thats already a massive and retarded leap. But even then you assume its a "him" that you can arrest and not just an act of the demiurge or some big cult with devil powers or whatever

I disagree. Maybe from an outsiders' perspective who didn't have access to the bodies and all the facts. But to someone with access, it was very clear something essentially impossible (by real world standards) was happening.
And once that's figured out, you kind of just let your character come to the conclusion that the cause is one that is impossible in the real world as well.

I know Light was corrupted by absolute power but I'm different, I would actually fix the world if I had the death note.

my assumption would be that the government was able to custom engineer a virus that caused heart attacks tuned to a specific person's DNA.
there is a lot of stuff I would think before "a wizard did it."

He does it all because hes bored. L was exactly what he was looking for. Nobody cares about anything that happens after L dies. Light won.

No he wasn't. The Japanese language doesn't allow for that. You got tricked by the translation.

The same folly of most serial killers, they crave recognition. They want to be seen as an apex predator and they either brag to someone or get too comfortable and get sloppy

The main thing to suspect would be pic rel. There's chemicals that can kill in very tiny amounts and be absorbed through the skin. Or just dropped into someone's hot water tank or something.

his goal wasn't to sit in his room and untraceably kill people forever, he wanted to be known as a conscious force

also crime rates dropped when he was doing his thing and nothing bad seemed to be happening

It's been a while since I watched Death Note but there are two reasons for why he didn't just kill people completely anonymously forever.
1) He has/developed a God complex
2) in order to establish and enforce a new world order, it was important for the populace to know that these seemingly inexplicable deaths were in fact killings, and there was someone out there with the power to commit them–a real, thinking person whose will should be obeyed under penalty of death.
