Halfway through season 2. It's nowhere near the level of TOS, TNG, or DS9, but it's not bad.
There are moments when it feels like a Star Trek show. Haven't been able to say that since Enterprise ended.
Anonymous No.213664793
Yeah, but that's the problem. The potential never realized. So close but almost unwilling to pull the trigger. Tonight's episode is a great example. That was solid. Not perfect but willing to do something. It still falls short from something like the Doomsday Machine or even just Second Chances, but it's trying and that means something. The problem is it never seems to reach the heights it's cablable of.

Honestly after a string of bad shows im glad it's just solid. So far I'm enjoying it because it's more trek even if it's not amazing. Then again previous trek shows took a few seasons before they got to their peaks too.

I thought the first season was decent with a few good episodes and a handful of terrible ideas. Season 2 was everything that sucked about the first season doubled and underlined. I'm not a stickler for continuity either way, but SNW is rife with atrocious George Lucas-tier prequelitis symptoms. If it actually lived up to its title it would be a good show. At its best it does capture the TOS adventure spirit, but it's not worth its mindnumbing interpretation of the Gorn or the need to shoehorn Kirk everywhere.

I enjoy this show and will miss it greatly when this season ends. I'm nervous about the Academy show that's coming next, I'm going to hope there's at least one character worth enough of a shit in it to stick with the show, because a school premise isn't what Star Trek is about.

Because everything after ENT is Trek in name only. And because there's basically nothing to discuss with the new shoes, because there's very little to them beyond straight-white-male-bashing, "Remember thiiiis?" and feelings in corridors. And because the only posters (or maybe just poster) who pretend they want to discuss Nu Trek don't actually discuss it, but instead spam insults about "geezers", pics from that tranny/furry cartoon and Paramount marketing guff.

And as ever, there's nothing stopping supposed fans of Nu Trek from setting up their own general and talking about it there, but strangely this never happens, and they/he/ze just keep on trolling fans of actual Trek (which actually merits discussion).

This season has been largely shit. It feels this show is just written by Tumblr Spock shipping fangirls. Has also the problem of NuTrek where all the actors are too "instagram" and act like quippy millennial college students. Also most of the characters aside from Captain, Number one and doctor suck, including this take on Spock.
SNW is like Lower Decks, 90% crap, 10% good episodes and but you can see how it could be better, and that is the show most people actually review online, the one in their heads.

A good writer could have made an entire episode about Kirk's first time in the captain's chair and his crisis of confidence. Here it's just one part of an episode where you also have the irritating main engineer digs out several old 20th century telephones to communicate throughout the ship. And in the end Kirk's problem just vanishes. He just has a good idea and it all works out.

Every real Trek fan already knows this, but Strange New Worlds is nothing but a soft reboot of TOS that’s made to appeal to a cuck soft sensitive audience that likes look extremely palatable science on par with the likes of nuDoctorWho. It’s emotional and quippy and just thought provoking enough to make a general audience feel smart without asking big questions that would turn them off. Eat my ass NuTrekkers. Your shit stinks.

I'm not playing that game. I won't put in the effort to explain in detail why some things were written ineffectively while all you do is saying It was good. Let's say that episode was average and when you claim it was actually good you have to do a write-up to explain it.

Not him, but judging by the posts of those who've sat through the show, it sounds like the "good" episodes are mediocre at best. And stuff either is enjoyable or it isn't. If you have to run it through a sort of internal committee to determine that, yes, actually, without my biases, on paper, this theoretically should be enjoyable... it's not enjoyable. Case in point: Get Out. Made by some black guy who's constantly seething about white people. Surprisingly enjoyable even so, because the protagonist is sympathetic and the director (in spite of himself) effectively satirises "diversity for thee, but not for me" liberals.

It's kind of wild how so much Trek fans have literally no standards.
Like Lower Decks if you follow Trek people, is a "genius" show, then you watch it's and it's a D-list sacchrine sitcom with no real jokes beyond just making references, and even S1 of the Orville is funnier than it.
When people say they like Star Trek, (TNG, DS9 etc) then defend these shows, I genuinely do not get what the fuck these people even liked about old Star Trek, Nu-Trek and Berman Trek are basically entirely different genres.
Classic Trek is semi-military/science autistic professionalism porn, Nu Trek is basically just interpersonal melodrama with light mystery elements sprinked in, in Trek outfits.

Pretty accurate take. Some of the episodes are really strong Star Trek episodes (getting into season 2 especially), but I think with only 10 episodes a season it never had room to grow. Let's be honest, TNG threw a lot more crap out than SNW is ever going to have a chance to, but that's what got TNG to get incredibly good. SNW will never have that.

It feels like Star Trek made by people who don't actually understand or really even like Star Trek all that much. It follows the beats but has none of the spirit or charm. Any of the moments where it feels like a "real" Star Trek come off as more blind luck than respect for the series.

Your disgusting fetishes are yours to enjoy, but ep6 was actually decent content. It did not use spock to masturbate a non existant female audience. It utilized everyone without too much drama. The plot did not make too much sense in the end but i guess its better than "generic evil race did it." Wait yes that would have made more sense. But i felt entertained and will consoom more nutrek slop.
