True. HxH is at its best when it's being incredibly dark. I always get the impression Togashi wrestles with himself on how dark he actually wants the writing to be.

I think the auction arc and greed island were pure kino and then the quality goes waaaaaaayyy down (esp the manga) with the ants and it loses all its mystery basically (and ends horrible in the anime)

chimera ant arc kinda turned me off of it tbqh, bug villains was such a let down after kino phantom troupe stuff, also Gon losing his powers made me lose interest in whatever happens after and the fucking author has had so many hiatuses i don't even know where the story is at now or whether Gon got his powers back

I remember reading HxH as it was being released and how the author was supposedly "dying" which made his art all scratchy and unfinished during the Chimera Ant Arc. I just looked that motherfucker is still alive lmao how in the fuck... did he really pretend to be dying so he could release chicken scratch manga art? I'm searching for it now and I can't find any examples, did he go back and redo them? Did bro really pretend to be dying to meet deadlines?

Kurapika is the main character now and it’s back with phantom troupe shenanigans, magical political intrigue, and a 200,000 population vessel on the verge of violent mutiny and revolution. Gon has only appeared in the story in a single panel and has not regained his powers. I think Togashi is setting up Gon returning but who’s to say if we ever get to that point. The current arc is my second favorite so far though. I’ll be happy enough if he manages to finish this one even if Gon never returns.

Apparently his back has deteriorated to such an extent that sitting up in a chair is agonizing. For awhile he was drawing the manga while on his back but in the batches from last year he was back at the desk, so there are rumors his back is better than how it was a few years ago at least.
