Actually good sci-fi B-Movies thread
As far as 50's B-Movies go, this is actually pretty damn good, the characters are fairly well written both in terms of being distinct and having dynamics with each other, the acting from the main cast is solid, the story holds together fairly well. The miniature work isn't terrible, the only thing that I take issue with is the god awful song during the party scene, terrible inclusion.

I Married A Monster From Outer Space is a pretty underrated one. Very well shot and acted for what it is, and a cool creature design.

It Came From Outer Space is one of my favorites. The desert scenes are creepier than a lot of what you see today though the theremin is doig plenty of the work.

>> The Deadly Mantis
>Very Good

Really underrated.
> Good build up with mystery & mood without overdoing it.
> The Mantis gets a lot of screentime.
> The Mantis looks solid & fairly realistic, they thankfully did not give him a humanized silly face like the close up models for BlackScorpion or Crab Monsters.
> Snowy artic setting is unique & a nice change of pace from the Deserts most of the 50s B-movies had.
> Great score.
> Lots of retro military porn & Jet footage.
> They don't waste too much time on romance like It Came from Beneath the Sea did.

I'd put it as about equal with Them and both just a bit above The Black Scoprion.
Tarantula is decent but notably lesser than those 3.

Oh shit, that thing looks like a straight-up live-action Hanna-Barbera Scooby-Doo monster. Wicked.

Love this shit as much as Carpenter's version. Very Hawksian, though direction is credited to Christian Nyby. Very comfy like most Hawks movies.

I've been a huge I Am Legend fan ever since I first read it in highschool, and to this day the Vincent Price movie is still the most faithful adaptation. It's like they get further away from the book every time they adapt it.

Lots of good ones mentioned already, but I'd like to single out my favorites:

The Crawling Eye
The Killer Shrews
Them
The Man With X Ray eyes

Also, Lee Van Cleef oddly delivers one of his best performances in It Conquered the World.

Japan ran circles around Hollywood when it comes to genre cinema I wouldn't even call it "B."Compare Battle in Outer Space to Earth vs. the Flying Saucers. It's easier to just focus on Western films then.
Them!, The Incredible Shrinking Man, The War of the Worlds and so on.

Queen of Blood is especially interesting if you like Alien. Even more interesting is watching the original Soviet movie Corman took footage from. That one doesn't even have an alien!
