Yeah, sure, it didn't leave much of a dent (if any) in the public consciousness, but that was a big fucking miss. Unlike most of his other projects throughout 2010s, many of which were ultimately soon forgettable, but they worked as intended, both in terms of commercial success and in terms of keeping Dwayne's reputation afloat as the guy who makes fairly fun blockbusters that deliver what you expect of them.

In the 2010s there was a relatively long-standing theory that Dwayne's plan for the 2020s, when he would start to age, was to pivot into politics and make a run for the president, like maybe for 2024 or 2028 or 2032, that kind of timeframe.

But then Trump happened in 2016, and that whole thing and all the surrounding context probably poisoned the concept of a formerly-non-political-celebrity president for something like a couple decades, derailing Dwayne's plan. And yes, Trump did get elected again in 2024, but that's the same person - not some other person trying to play the same game.

So Dwayne's original plan to move out of the movies probably by the end of the 2010s was now ruined, which might be a part of the reason why his career started getting wobbly when he reached the end of what was decently well planned out and had to somewhat hectically make new plans for his 50s / 60s (age, that is), which might not be very great plans because he's starting to actually age.

Also, notably, he somehow manages to have ZERO sexual charisma or chemistry with his co-leads. His movies are all weirdly super-platonic in this regard. And yes, in the 2010s there was less obvious / in-your-face romance in action movies in general, that's true, but Dwayne's movies are *particularly* notable for having zero of it. His characters just aren't healthy males with interest in women and with women's interest in them. Typically they throw a couple mentions in there about how his character has a wife and kids, probably just to say "yes, he's not a virgin, he's not gay, he's a guy who had sex with a woman", but that's it.

Then Red Notice had the "twist" where him and Gal Gadot are romantic partners and it was sooooo forced and unconvincing and awkward. He somehow can't do romantic or sexual chemistry at all.
