The only good things about this movie are how pretty some of the scenes are and how pretty Nastassja Kinski is. It's not a must watch, the story is kind of lame and sappy, but my inner white girl also don't regret watching it. 6/10.

i tried watching this movie and like an hour or so in literally nothing happened and i was so bored i just deleted the file and gave it 2 stars on RYM.

not that i don't enjoy slow burning films, but this was just so unbelievably boring i just had to quit watching it, i saw it was classified as "neo-western" and i expected some crime mystery type of shit not some family drama slop, who gives a shit about this hobo in the middle of nowhere, i didn't even make it to the Nastassja Kinski part

So many movies forgot that cheap fluorescent lighting was either blue or yellow.

Saw one movie recently where the main character was walking through a hole-in-the-wall pool hall and all the light fixtures were clearly low hanging fluorescent tubes but the scene is perfect chroma, then he goes into the bathroom, which would have incandescent lighting, and the pool hall lighting can be seen as cheap-CFL blue

She's literally one of two of the only redeeming thing about this movie. The second being the cinematography, as other anons mentioned. And yeah I have no idea why anyone would label this movie as a neo-western.

Pro tip: 4chan is full of hipster niggers. Here's a quick cheat sheet:
>/tv/ loves a movie and says it's pure kino
It's a pretentious garbage artshit "movie"
>/tv/ spams it either saying it's kino or it's over
Actual genuine kino, but too popular for /tv/ to admit it
>/tv/ says it's shit almost unanimously
It's probably good brain dead fun, but it's popular to normies, so /t / hates it

Do you mean incandescent? Incandescent bulbs were yellow and Mercury bulbs were blue. Fluorescent lighting has always been a bright white violent assault against the eyes. And yeah I miss incandescent street lights. Life literally looked like a movie at night because of them. There's a park near me that still has all of the old orange bulbs and it's like a little slice of heaven at night, especially during the winter when it snows.

i'm not surprised. so many of these type "great" movies are devoid of pacing and tension. Scenes just start, go on and on with no real punchline.
I watched andrei rublev and stalker, and they're not that bad movies or anything but people rally exaggerate how genius tarkovsky is. Doesn't solaris open up with a 15 minute soviet conference meeting discussing the plot of the movie? I can only handle so much slavic self-loathing nihilism before i give up.
I wanted to LOVE on the silver globe but holy shit dude, it's like the director trying to bore you.

Tarkovsky's films are metaphysical. To grasp this, you have to have that sense yourself. Or rather, everyone does, but certain cultures, like the English, blunt this sense and force literalism upon people. That's why Hollywood films begin and end with the literal meaning of the plot, with nothing in between.

In other words, you've been mutilated.

This is exactly what i was talking about. These faux-intellectual types always love to belittle superior works to protect their identity, which they based off of boring third world films. As if tarkovsky is some gatekeeper of existentialism.

I try not to get all libbed up about Age Gaps or whatever but it reaches a point where it breaks my suspension of disbelief.
It's beautifully shot and well-acted, but the "romance" of the film is only appealing to brainbroken women that got used to being told they were "so mature for [their] age" when they were in high school.

Travis at no point feels like a guy that would fall for an underage girl and it makes the whole dynamic feel more contrived than if she was like 10 years younger

Ah! The classic English "IF IT'S NOT SIMPLE AND LITERAL, IT MUST BE A FRAUD!"

One more thing – both Jodorowsky and Tarkovsky combine spirituality and metaphysics, but in different proportions. You see, spirituality is the transcendence of matter, and metaphysics is the experience and sense of transcendence of that which is more than a simple relationship between the senses and the mind. While Jodo seeks an experience beyond life, Tarko is a contemplative. One is Western, the other Eastern.

This is the most retarded cope i have read so far on this thread, a film is not only cinematography or fancy shots man, it's everything, the characters the plot, the photography, etc.
Capeshit has plot but lacks substance and cinematography for example.

I just didn't like this movie because it failed at the main goal of entertainment, which is....to entertain, if a movie isn't plot driven at the very least it can be more character driven like some mumblecore films and still be fun to watch, sorry but just some mute doofus brooding over his life is not a compelling character.
