It isn't a terrible formula but it is far from original. The main problem isn't even the formula it's that all the actors were fucking sleep walking through it. Not a single good performance except maybe Bob and only then mostly because he didn't have much to do. Everyone else fucking sucked, community theater level sucked.
Julia Louis Dryfeuss is not a good dramatic actor at all, they need to stop pushing her as anything but a comedic heavyweight because she simply cannot deliver, not to mention she is doubly unfit for any sort of role requiring menace, villainy, or evil. She was a horrible antagonist. Incompetent Villains, paper thin characters ("In Soviet Russia" turned into a character isn't just unengaging on an emotional level, it stops being funny because you have to sit for 2 hours with it being repeated ad nauseum), shitty dialogue, terrible pacing (Saved Bob/Sentry for Act 3, condense the dream sequence heavily, cut everything but the bare bones of the impeachment plot for context, pick a member of the team and cut them all together.
Overall just a shoddy, poorly written mess without a soul.
