Shit like the CGI gopher and Shia Leboof as Tarzan King of the Apes was some real "what the fuck were they thinking?" moments, but in retrospect it's better than most blockbusters of the last 10 years.

No, it was fine. Casting Lebouf was the only questionable choice. And yes, even then, before he lost his mind, it was questionable. But the real problem with Crystal Skull was just that it was too long between that and Last Crusade. It just had too much nostalgia working against it. Really, Speilberg, Lucas and Ford never should've stopped making Indiana Jones movies and we should've had at least three more of them through the 90s.
