I recently re-watched the original Naked Gun movie from 1988 and it was really quite bad. People remember it fondly perhaps because a 30m episode of the TV show was better than the 90m movie. The movie lost the tone of the tv show with drebbin going after the ayatolla and yasir arrofat and protecting the queen (wonder why hollywood is obsessed with this) instead of being a local cop in some fictional town.

It is a good movie. I agree that it doesnt feel like the old movies. Maybe it is too nostalgic and feels outdated or old. Like the “Das Kanu des Manitu“-Movie.
But it is a good comedy movie,

I was bored by it, and I love Police Squad/Naked Gun.

Neeson's Drebin is too deadpan, and lacks the low-key pomposity and comic timing of Nielsen's Drebin. Neeson is just deadpan with no skill at comic timing.
