James Gunn wanted the movie out on digital so people could watch it before Peacemaker comes out which he thought was going to be next month even though he was the one who announced it's August release date without having to go to the theater also a lot of things are out of his control even though he is completely in charge of DC studios also you don't actually need to watch Superman to understand Peacemaker season 2 because the story works in and of itself despite them being connected just like how you don't need to watch season 1 of Peacemaker to understand season 2

That is good for small town theatres. Local guy only has one screen and companies like Disney demand he leaves their films up for months so they have no competition. Everybody watches the first two weeks then it’s dead. He quit bringing in Disney movies because of it.
