What he’s really looking for is closure, and it could climax in some big face off where Dexter thinks he’s done for and opens up to Batista, telling him everything and being sincerely apologetic about how things turned out, causing Batista to feel he got what he needed and maybe seeing Dexter as some “necessary evil”, either in an uneasy way like Deb in S7-8 or maybe becoming his ‘inside man’ and us getting a Dex-Pasion crime fighting duo, one on each side of the law (could shoehorn Batista coming out of retirement to work for the NYPD, perhaps after they get an opening when on of the detectives dies, maybe he even partners with Detective Bee Gees)
