Because there's no latinum in it.
The TNG restoration cost a shit load, and lost money
DS9 would be far more complex, and would lose even more money. There is simply no profit in physical media in current year

Of course not. Movies were better when they borrowed more from stage plays as well. The slow death of non-diegetic lighting, blocking and actors having to actually choreograph hitting their marks in time with focus pulls and camera moves has been agonizing to see.

Regular primetime TV shows from 30 years ago put more effort into setting up interesting framings and novel lighting than most "AAA" blockbusters and series today. I've been watching a bit of The Practice lately and it's shocking the care that was taken in some of the throwaway transitional sequences inbetween locations.

TNG restoration cost 13mill, DS9 would be more expensive, can't say by how much

Star Trek premiered in 1966 the first year that most network TV shows were produced in color. The bright primary colors and back ground colors were used to show off new color tvs. People making tv shows at the time were learning how to use color which had previously only been available for big budget movies.

My understanding is

>TOS shot entirely on film
>TNG shot almost entirely on film except a couple effects that they had to redo
>DS9 and Voyager shot their SFX on videotape
>Enterprise shot knowing that HDTV was going to be a thing soon

End result is

>TOS gets an easy-ish HD remaster
>TNG gets an HD remaster that takes some work but is thought to be worth it due to it's preeminent position
>DS9 and Voyager stuck on DVD
>Enterprise doesn't need a remaster

that was terrible and the CGI effects now look more dated than the original optical effects which were surprisingly good considering they were using ping pong balls and paper mache.

Terrible luck. It was released immediately in the shadow of Star Wars and the title gave people the wrong impression about the subject matter of the movie so it flopped hard and only in the last 20 or so years received the recognition it deserved.

Color film did not exist for millennia. Even though there are well known color movies from the 1930s color film was still considered an expensive luxury and most films were still black and white even in the 1960s.

Many later star trek series from TNG to enterprise were shot with very dark lighting to be watched on CRT tv in dark rooms. But this causes problems when you are trying to watch them on your phone in a bright environment like the beach.

Wtf happened to HBO? They had some actually not terrible made for TV movies in the 90s. Shows like The Wire, Deadwood, and Rome in the early 2000s. The first few seasons of Boardwalk Empire and GoT were decent. Then they just completely fell off a fucking cliff.

HBO is about where it's always been. A handful of hits per decade and a load of forgettable trash. Granted they've been on a rough run since 2020 but still. If you go through their back catalog you'll see just how much junk they've always released.

The ancient Grecian theatre was the original artwork from which all other artworks were derived. And then of course the later theatre (and operas) of Europe were what inspired films in the first place. You can't create something from nothing, there's always a tradition or earlier creation which you owe something to in creative arts, but modern hollywood doesn't realise this.

Absolutely this. My favorite film is Waiting For Godot (/teevee/ midwits have never seen this and would never understand it) and if were filmed to be "cinematic", it would absolutely ruin the minimal beauty of it. You might as well rewrite it so it has a plot and character development at that point

The main difference between TOS and the later shows that were also shot on film is that TOS was edited on film too. So you had a finished product you could just rescan. TNG and later were edited on tape, so you had to scan all the film and then reedit the show (finding the correct takes and stuff).

There's not always a production of it near where I live - and if there is, there's no saying it will be good or not. The film is impeccably made, and all of the actors give stellar performances in it. So yes, I watch a very playlike adaptation of my favorite play from time to time, you dunce.
