TNG Klingons were just old fashioned feudal era Japanese. Sure there's some Cold War era comparisons but it's not 1:1. Houses and Honor and swordsmanship are not cold war era Russia.
I view Trek not as a direct comparison to any time period, but as many advanced cultures from many different time periods coexisting in space and time. The cultures that don't make the grade are "pre-warp." The question is who are the Ancient Egyptians? The Iconians maybe?

Spirit Folk is a weird episode of Voyager. Basically Voyager's AI just gets told it has to portray a bunch of Irish villagers and then it goes off on its own crazy tangent of pretending it's not Voyager's AI and that its suspicious of Voyagers crew. I guess it's comparable to when the Enterprise's AI thought it was Moriarty, but its weird that it would resort to superstition and stuff. I'm willing to accept the Doctor and Vic Fontaine as individual intelligences but when it's a single AI that's being a whole village, and then they're having private conversations when the crew isn't even around.... I just think it's too complicated to make any sense of it beyond the fact that Voyager's AI is bored and hates that it's not treated as sentient so it decides randomly to fuck with the crew for laughs. The Enterprise AI often did the same on TNG. I recognize that the AI is intelligent, but as for most of the characters it's playing it's just like watching a schizo have a conversation with 10 different versions of himself. It's bizarre. It was cool seeing the new versions of the characters unite on the Farragut and there was a semblance of a plot, but the entire time I had this nagging thought that they would do something dumb and lo and behold they did the reveal at the end. They might have feared that leaving it unanswered would have it be too similar to Doomsday Machine, but the important thing is that I liked it more than I disliked it and that is the second time I can say that about an episode of SNW; two more times than STD, PIC, and that animated one.

I watched a few seasons of Lower Decks today, out tof curiousity. It's safe to say it is the best of the nu treks, but I wouldn't call it a favorite of mine.
It's very telling how the cartoon characters in a stoner comedy still speak and act more professionally than the live action shows we got.
I think Jack Quaid was a great get for this production, leagues above the unknowns who feature in Discovery or the other one
