It wasn't perfect. The Airfleet storyline dragged on too long and took too much time out of the casino storyline which made Bond and Vesper's relationship too rushed and that entire segment of the movie too undercooked. The final act thus has no substance when it comes to Vesper's betrayal since half an hour ago, she hated his guts. It completely destroys the novel's slow-burn mind-game thriller story and turns it into just another action movie with no pulpy wit. It made Bond into just another generic action hero and sucked all life out of him. It was barely above average. You want real Bond? Go watch GoldenEye.

All I remember is that the first third of the movie is a confusing bore with shitty action, then there's a boring as fuck poker tournament, and then Bond getse his balls annihilated.

I agree except GoldenEye. I don't understand why people love Pierce Bronsan era so much, it's Moore but mostly shockingly soulless despite being made during a period where any random ass B-movie felt like it had presence. I mean those films have their moments but to me it was really when Bond became too much of a "modern blockbuster". Even the worst of Moore still felt like "Bond".

The Brosnan era was the first actual reboot of the series. Connery to Dalton are the same canon and timeline. The last Bond movie in the classic canon was LtK. Brosnan's Bond was a Best-Of 90's reboot recreation of the classic era with 90's pozz like woman M. Daniel Craig's era was an abomination I want everyone to pretend didn't exist. At least we moved on to the Aaron Taylor-Johnson era..

What I love about Casino Royale is that there's no world-ending threat. There's no globe-spanning super-secret shadow cabal that runs everything. There's just a criminal banker and money launderer, and a card game.

the entire vespa betrayal shit was a waste of time anyway, the movie would have been better without it
is anything after casino royale worth watching? i never bothered

my biggest issue is its supposed to be an origin story but bond is already acting like classic bond. in the book he's a nerdy accountant whose decent at cards being sent on the least important mission only because a ton of field agents got their identities leaked. he's a bit goofy and doesn't always say the right thing. in the movie he's acting like a suave hotshot out of the gate.

I love it but its not perfect. The poker scenes don't make sense, some of the flirting is cringe and of course the constant product placement can't be ignored. It's still the best Bond film though that's not a high bar at all.

It's always people who don't like or care about Bond that shill Craig and insult actual, real Bond fans. Get fucking fucked to death, you cocksucker. You're probably an American capeshit consumer. >not a high bar at all
sincerely wish you would die soon
>>213729895 (OP) >le chiffre is a mathematical genius who likes to show off his skills with high stakes poker >he literally never does any math in the whole movie >he just gets the best hand every time >"hmmm shall I use some brilliant calculations to plan my moves in this poker game to end up winning a big hand? Naw, I'll just poison him instead"
What the fuck was the point of mentioning math if he doesn't do math?

Man, don't die. Please keep living. Living as yourself is the most grueling punishment fathomable. Please keep on living as long as possible and keep yourself in perpetual pain.

Casino Royale wasn’t a Bond movie it was a generic 2000s action movie dressed up with characters from the Bond universe.
Ironically, this was a net positive because as soon as they started mixing in more Bond elements it went downhill.
