That's actually how the cops work nowadays. Except mass surveillance exists, so they can either pin everything on you if they need it, or they can find someone who needs to be found because he hurt one of their own (mafia/politicians/family) instantly, they just have to do parallel construction of "evidence" for the paperwork.

My biggest grievance with the film is that the kids weren't even being used as weapons, that was just a potential use of the magic. There were only two weapon scenes in the whole film.

They also shut down his questions about the K9 unit, but dogs should have been easily able to track the kids a few blocks.

Also a month of standing in a basement with their eyes open and never blinking would absolutely kill them or fuck them up immensely even with regular soup. Standing requires conscious effort and coordination at least on some level and eyes need constant moisture.

THERE IS A 5 MINUTE SEQUENCE THAT SHOWS THE POLICE DID INVESTIGATE THEM AND THEY DID VISIT THE HOUSE TO LOOK AROUND BUT GLADYS COMPLETELY FIXED THE HOUSE AND SENT THE KIDS AWAY FOR THAT TIME
