I'm not even American but there's a pretty clear diference in how they made fun of things before this newest double episode. I'm thinking back to the episodes where they make fun of Cruise being in the closet, and while it was always mean it never felt deranged. Like it always felt like Matt & Trey kept their cool, the episodes still had the "I learned something today" bit, had an actual South Park plot intertwined with the real life jabs, etc. The Hillary vs Trump 2016 bit also functioned as a South Park plot even if the viewer understood nothing about the real life inspiration.
This newest duo episode just feels seetheful on Matt & Trey's part. Like they were too angry to actually make a real South Park episode and it ended up being shambolic and weird. There's no "I learned something today" thing, the plot doesn't add up to anything coherent, and it just feels like it was written by someone else. If you don't have full total knowledge about the real life inspiration, this duo episode feels like a random collection of scenes and jokes stitched together without meaning.
You know how when two people are bantering, you can tell the other guy is starting to get really butthurt for real because he stops bantering and just starts screaming insults? Well these 2 episodes felt a lot like that.
