He was intended to be a guy who jumped over tall objects and beat up gangsters, 5th columnists and guys who harass women.
Then he got a magical rival who had talking tigers and shit and things started getting wacky.

We have a giant bronze woman in the harbor that literally advertises space for poor and huddled masses.
Maybe leaving that up all this time was a bad idea? It certainly makes everyone feel welcome.
He was never weak in the movie. He was only injured by his own clone, and when he was exposed to Kryptonite. Against the giant monster he was holding back because he didn't want to kill it.

He can't even competently fist-fight another guy who has to wait for "fighting moves" to be shouted at him by people over a communicator.
Easily the dumbest part of an otherwise reasonably good movie.
Superman is literally not fast enough to get the jump on a guy who's waiting for some nerd to shout "Number 5! Do a Number 5!" at him remotely.
>make superman strong >"HE'S TOO OP!!! THE MOVIE IS BORING, NO STAKES OR TENSION!!!" >put limits on supermans powers >"HE'S TOO WEAK!!! HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE GOD!!!"

Most of his punches sent Supes flying half a mile away- he got his orders while he was staggered. The better nit to pick is Clark only noticing the numerous cameras that always accompany Ultraman when it's time to break them.

Not many people understand Superman. Kryptonite poisoning takes him a couple of days to recover. Why? Clark has been on Earth for 30 years. Even Clark mentions this in the Supergirl scene. His body has adapted to the Sun's radiation on Earth. He should recover fairly quickly. It's not like the clip below when he gets shot by a Kryptonite bullet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmxH2KC2qho
