The verdict? Does it deserve its 7.9/10 IMDB and 94% RT score? I enjoyed it, but is at most a solid 7/10. I liked the story as a whole, witch stories make for some of the best horror stories in my opinion. I liked the pacing and the different segments. What I didn't like was how the cop and the junkie got a segment. The first could be excused if his character actually got developed, but other than "the teacher knows him from way back and they used to get drunk together and now he has a wife that's also the police captains daughter (was it?)" that arc really didn't go anywhere. The junkie really didn't deserve any attention, I have no idea why they bothered. The teacher, the angry dad and Alex segments were all solid. Also really didn't enjoy the slapstick ending, kinda took away from the seriousness of the movie. Solid 7/10.

I thought Brand New Cherry Flavor, while not a movie, was a better witch story than this. Does that answer your question?
The cop was very nervous when he arrested the junkie, he was asking him if he hurt had him when he tackled him and if his cuffs were too tight, etc. And he was scared shitless when he was recorded knocking out the junkie by his dash camera, hinting that something like this has happened before, maybe while he was drunk. And after they get controlled by Gladys, they can oppose Justine and Archer in the final action scene.
.

Easily the worst part of the movie, fucking random ass red herring.
I'm still giving it 8.5/10, it's really good especially if you don't nitpick it.

I didn't really register it as full slapstick but honestly yeah, maybe a bit more serious and gruesome ending would be better. Still, to me it just turns ending from perfect to good, and given the drought of good movies I'm ok with that.

IMDb scores always have recency bias. I think 7/10 is fair. I liked the message don't let fruits teach your kids.

IMDB forums are the best movie discussion space the internet has ever had. Moviechat.org is a recreation but the magic is gone forever. Plus, it's infested with Redditors as most (good) users of that forum are now either done with the internet or here. it's truly over.

IMDB scores tend to drop a bit with time so 7/10 syncs up pretty well with IMDB. You gave it postitive review so you agree with 94% of the RT critics. So it seems like both IMBD and RT align with your opinion of the movie.

Saw it last night. It was fun. Subverted expectations and Brolin and Garner acted well. The reveal was kind of easy to guess but it was pretty well done and I even liked the multiple viewpoints storytelling. I wouldn'y' call it movie of the year but I got what I wanted out of it.

>Jordan Peele
The movie desperately needed a black POV. If Peele had been a producer there'd be more diversity, which is a good thing. As it stands, it is a 6/10.
Peele would have elevated the social commentary and raised it to an 8,9/10
