It's not depressing, its quite light hearted and goofy. Scrubs had heavier moments than House and that was a sitcom.

A lot of winter episodes and the show is set in the NE US. It's a show about House being a depressive genius and he never really changes until like season 6. Even then he struggles with it and you mourn the old House just like he mourns himself. Then it's basically two seasons of him trying but failing to be a better person, and connect to those around him. By the time he reconnects with his oldest and best friend, the friend has only months to live. House has to simulate suicide but it doesn't provide catharsis. He's still house. He's still miserable. His friend is dying. The best he can do is a few months of playing dead.

It's depressing because you realize house is never going to be genuinely happy because of what happened to his leg

>why does it feel depressing watching a miserable man in constant pain alienate people who care about him and slowly descend into drug addiction and insanity to cope with his shitty life
Gee i dont know.
As someone who also suffers from incurable constant pain what he really needed was for someone to just give him a fucking hug
