3 is a miserable experience even if you get over Newt and Hicks and how their deaths make 2 pointless. Love Aliens but the Marines are all a little too cartoony gung-ho. If I had to guess they were made to watch the first film and study the loose, slice of life, 1970s acting class ensemble improv “space truckers” and imitate them. It doesn’t quite work for me but it gets better once the action starts.

pretty much, I loved Aliens when I saw it in the theater but then when I rented the video tape and saw Alien3 I was like "What the fuck is this weird shit?" and "Why the fuck did those assholes kill all the survivors of Aliens?"

I rewatched it recently and was a little surprised how lowkey and sparse most of it is. I remember it being a lot more fast and intense as a kid. Even in the theatrical cut it has a pretty sluggish pace.

I watched the start of Name of the Rose and realized this movie was supposed to piggyback on its success. Several of the exact same shots used to establish the exact same setting with like a tiny variation of it being in space but not even. They slaughter/hang up an ox instead of a pig so that a xeno could fit inside. Name of the rose in space with the name alien wtf why not piggyback on fucking Alien?
