>>213753559Start now bc October itself goes by fast
>>213753568I actually have dreams sometimes where I'm at the end of October and I somehow didn't realize it was October, and I haven't watched any horror or carved any pumpkins or even eaten a reese's cup, and I panic and scramble to make up for lost time before the month ends, until my rapid heart beat wakes me up
>>213753629It's a fair warning. The season is already on

>>213753559pumpkin in general is damn underrated. goes well with literally any dish.

Have you ever seen someone walk out of a showing before
What was it and why do you think
The story was less interesting than the first two and I would have liked it more if they just moved onto a new unrelated cast altogether, but it was still dumb fun and I liked its sometimes self-deprecating humor. Could be remembering wrong but it also felt more like a slapstick compared to the first two, like how Dewey was knocked out with the blunt end of a knife, or that entire scene where Jennifer's manor fucking explodes.
The Weinstein brothers may also be sleazy perverts, but they cast some good looking girls in their films. Especially the Angelica character I think, the character that was going to play Sidney's character in Stab 3. Or that one blonde lady that randomly played with her boob while looking at some photo. I'm surprised they kept that subplot about female actresses sleeping their way to the top of Hollywood, knowing about Harvey at least.
>>213753845I'm too focused on the movie to notice shit like that. If someone gets up and walks out in front of me, I just assume they're taking a piss or getting more popcorn, and don't think about it any further

>>213754037Yup. Mainly stuck with vidya my life, but watching movies now due to less free time.
>>213754072Whatโs the best decade in your opinion?

I saw it on TV a few years later and it was pretty disturbing. I couldn't sit through it all so watched the end the next day. Looks like they're gonna have some vague origin backgrounds to The Strangers.
Could be an interesting production/distribution model for horror and other genres:

>>213756698i really like the monster in no one gets out alive, but that's 2021.
>>213756807it's kind of like The Ritual monster, which is by the same writer.
>>213756698That's partially budgetary. Barbarian was able to get made because it's cheap to film horror, and studios will take more risks on script/director compared to other genres. But then your monster costume has to cost like a hundred bucks. So you either get the classic "big gay retard" villain, like you said, or maybe an Art The Clown where it's recognize but still cheap. Actually it's annoying - you'll not see another pumpkinhead unless studios really open their wallets - and even more visually aspirational films are gimped. The Substance claimed it has ambitious VFX but they were all there "intentionally cheesy" practical effects that would have been laughed out of an 80s theater. Why not good practical effects? Budget. Audiences are at least also aware of poor CGI, so you haven't seen animated monsters either because EVEN paying an Indian to animate one is too expensive for what it's worth when people notice visual flaws in CGI immediately, and forgive them less. (This last one is at least a good thing)
We're going to see a new monster when we see a bigger budget, but horror has been doing so well the last couple years that it might happen.
>>213756651Love this outback nigga
>>213756892has bigger budget EVER gone into beter practical fx instead of a larger quantity of shitty cgi?
>>213757038I suppose not. But that's also what it would take.
Or rather, get some of the remaining Jim Henson-ass animatronic experts to draw you up something truly incredible... That would cost a ton of money on top of needing to be attached to a good project. Cash wouldn't be a cure, but unfortunately I think it is a requirement.
This movie rocks.
But if you're gonna watch it, go in blind. You will enjoy it.
>>213756698Krampus?
I though the Anubis in The Pyramid was actually ok even though it was CGI.
Slim pickings for creatures though. Wolfman 2010 was a cool design even if not original.
>>213757112>>213757038Pretty sure those Jim Henson guys are working on FNAF so that's one set of creatures.

>>213757112>>213757182Are there any documentaries about the olde practical FX shops? I think I watched one about harryhausen's stop motion shit once upon a time.
>>213756892Yeah the people bitching about AI filmmaking have not rally addressed this problem. I think its the only way to get interesting now. Like I wrote a script without a budget in mind and realized it'd cost 10s of millions of dollar (multiple locations, expensive costume, 10+ characters)
Made me wonder how many films haven't been made due to every horror filmmaker having to film the same low-budget horror films

What do you think of my Appalachian mutant concept?
>500+ years old
>Chimp-like fangs, gator eyes, leathery aged skin
>hyper-violent, but also cunning and intelligent
>Discovered by scientists searching for novel species in caves
Had to retcon my script for a lower budget, and this is what I came up with. The original was more like Creature from the Black Lagoon set in the Amazon rainforest.

>>213758150>why chimp-like if its in appalachia?Only its fangs are chimplike. Its skin is just leathery and old.
Basic premise is a grad student researching a remote cave system is attacked by a 500-year-old human mutant. She survives but discovers she is pregnant, and when she attempts to end it, she is kidnapped by rogue scientists determined to exploit the offspringโs evolutionary secrets.
Itโs not entirely a creature feature, thatโs just my โscientifically plausibleโ human mutant with rare genetic traits.
>>213758150Its supposed to be the "alpha male" ideal taken to its logical conclusion. Dominant, violent, reproductively successful.
>>213758402hiding in a rape cave for 500 years til a scientist shows up is usually not successful reproductive behavior.

>>213758540>do not know how you involve the MiBs though.Weird thing about the men in black I vaguely remember from a radio programme or something years ago
Some guy had been researching UFO sightings as a debunking thing, getting real AF records to show they were planes, or psy ops etc. But he also kept finding these men in black references where some agency/group was showing up before the known government agencies and asking about the UFOs, and these men in black were common enough there were government agents who were starting inquiries into who the fuck these guys were and why they were getting there first
Then inquiries didn't seem to go anywhere because if they were g-men, the government was generally denying it, and if they weren't, nobody had any clue how they did it
>>213761984Did anyone tell that anon to watch Night of the Hunter?
In my sleep, I realised another problem I have with the post-Hooper TCM movies, which is the excessive jumpscares, which are unnecessary.
>someone walks past camera>piano goes DUMMMMMM>someone pops up>piano goes DUMMMMMMHooper understood that the chainsaw is itself the jumpscare if you have put sheer silence all around it. When Leatherface comes charging out of the dark room in TCM2, chainsaw roaring into life, itโs the most sudden and effective jumpscare in the series.
>>213754604My favourite scene is when they take her to their secret comfyshack with the deck chairs, green carpet and beach tapestry. I seriously want to live there.
>>213754794You should watch Tenebrae. My favourite movie ever. Really, Dario has a must-see run from his first movie to The Stendhal Syndrome in โ96.
here is my idea for a horror movie called the machine: hikers are hiking and they find a machine and it has meat all around it it is a meat machine. and the meat machine is not only surrounded by hunks of meat, but even some parts of the machine are also meat. hence the meat machine. Anyway, these rapscallions stumble upon this ol hunk of abyssal machinery and are stumped. Turns out, the meat machine has an operator, and he is none too pleased to have these youngsters in his woods. so the meat machine operator goes after these kids, and well he has a meat machine so it is meat machine man vs four kids. these are college kids. but the meat machine counts as well so it's two vs four. since four is bigger than two the college kids win and they take the meat machine back to their university and are rewarded with papers and awards and what not for finding such a cool piece of machinery. lotta people tell me this has potential so just throwing it out there. just a smart dude with a computer man, nothing to it. i make movies and write scripts. i am good at it most people aren't, most people wouldn't get it.

Hey, do you guys feel like people have gotten way dumber lately?
Iโm not exactly the smartest guy around (I can never remember character names), but some of the folks I watch horror movies with often miss the point entirely, have to Google the ending, read the wiki, or watch some youtuber break down the whole film
>>213766002they've been consuming too much breadtube and social media. their brains have forfeited the ability to think for itself
>>213766002>>213766137This is probably some of it, because a lot of people have fried attention spans, so while watching a movie, they might also be responding to emails or texting or whatever, and when they miss something they figure it's because the movie didn't explain it well
However, this has been going on too long to be explained by that alone, because Inception googling was long before a lot of the shortest most attention span draining media were available

>>213766002A lot of people will watch movies and TV shows and literally not pay attention to them, causing them to be confused about plot points or character motivations that have already been explained. I've also noticed a lot of people, for lack of a better way of saying this, don't actually know how to watch movies. Like they expect dramatic plot twists even when it's clear it's not that kind of movie, they don't understand genres, they will think a character who is deliberately written to have stilted or deadpan dialogue is being poorly acted, etc. I'm not even saying this as reddit bashing, just look up a popular movie you like on reddit and see how people talk about it. These people are on their phones or doing other things while they watch movies and the end result is they get confused by basic things.

I think his neighbors complained of the smell or blood dripping down into their apartment or something was how they found her.
I rewatched Saw 1 for the first time in years. My memory of it was just suspence and gore, but it actually wasn't. It's actually a ton of little interconnected storylines with a "who's the killer?" type movie. It's pretty well done. It might even be more noir than horror.

>>213773438To me it's a comic book adaption, or what if type anthology. You pick up random issues and read them, the overall narrative shifts a lot but internally each piece makes sense. >>213766002Read the experience of teachers now and they will tell you yes. Pretty shocking stories of younger people basically not being able to perform simple obvious actions without instruction. Part of it is being dumb, but another part is being terrified of being wrong or trying something new. Basically they increasingly literally can't think for themselves, the muscle isn't there, they need to be told how to feel.
I think the "2hr explanation of 90m film" slop is partly just entertainment for retards, but for a non-trivial amount they actually can't interpret a film themselves. Likely also on their phone the whole time.
>>213773749I've been out of work from my job for a couple months and I feel noticably stupider. >>213773749Kids are also way worse at reading now teachers say, like borderline illiterate in middle school. It's crazy.
>>213773749Some of it is shifting cultural demands. There are boomers who used know ten people's phone numbers by heart who now don't know their own phone number, because when humans are aware they can access the information easily time and again, they don't bother learning it. The people who used know it by heart are now resorting to Google it too.
When you know there will be the two hour explanation coming out from your subscription list, why bother paying any attention to the 90 minutes it's based upon?
It's likely compounded by the cheapness of entertainment too. The more you pay for something, the more you like it: free albums aren't seen as being as good as albums that charge you twenty quid for a 25c disc. Paying for merch is more likely to make you value that thing, but merch for movies is also dying, while merch for the youtuber who explains it is booming.
>>213773862Take up a new hobby too beyond reading books, especially a social and physical hobby. The human brain really is a use it or lose it deal, and the earlier you start turning it off, the earlier it starts disintegrating.

>>213753043 (OP)When Sally bursts through the front living room window and advances onto the road in front of the house, she is the only character to manage to proceed forward. The way out is through. Everyone else is sucked either toward the house, or moving "backwards", through the front door into the house itself, from which they don't escape.
When Sally is chased at night, she is chased BACKWARDS, out the back window of the house and back to the gas station, a previously visited location. Her motion is retrograde. She'll never get out by moving backwards. She must proceed forward.
Kirk, the biggest normie in the bunch, is the only one dumb enough to invite the hitchhiker into the van. Kirk invites him in, and then shuts the metal door behind him. Kirk then refuses to pay "two dollars" for the stupid photographs. Later, approaching the house, Kirk hopes to barter for "a couple bucks". He comes into the house uninvited, and has a metal door slammed behind him.

In the very beginning, Franklin the big piggy is let down his wooden ramp, out the metal door, out of the van. When Kirk looks into the house, he sees a small ramp object leading to the metal door, and hears pig noises.
In the old Hardesty place, there are "animals on the wall", in the form of an animal print wallpaper that Sally remembers from early childhood, and comments on. In the other house, there are literal dead animals on the wall (taxidermy).
