The people whom complain about why are there armed forces within the first responders: A spaceship just crashed, they don't know why, could be a crew member going insane, and apparently these ships have at least one crash proof pod where the terrorist crew member would survive. Could be protocoll to treat space vessel crashes, foresight for possible alien life. Could a precaution, in case a synthetic, or android go crazy. Could be just to deter rival companies armed salvage crews from entering the site. Could be to deter looters, both of the valuable space vessel, and both of the poors gaining access to the more affluent areas of the building during evacuation. There are real life areas in the world where both paramedics, and even firefighters require police escorts, due to "violent neighbourhoods", meaning minorities, and there are some no-go zones where even police won't enter. It's not that big of a strech, with more modern times even regular citizens could provide more threat, with access to more advanced tech themself. Also citizens could panic, go crazy from trauma, vandalism, looting, rioting, raping, assault, and ambushing rescue workers, even the rich residents could be high on drugs, and chimp out at the rescue teams. So here, about a dozen reasons why should they have an armed group going in first.

What not enough people complain about, is the loss of radio signal thrope, that gives an excuse why the soldiers get picked off in small groups. As in don't try to tell that in a future surveilance state, they did not figure out reliable radio signal coverage yet. inb4 signal is jammed, that is an other reason for armed response.

I was able to suspend disbelief over a lot of shit: the research ship hitting that space station and then not sending a signal back to earth over it. It not being noticed until it was right about to crash. But the medic thing is just hard to ignore as a Paramedic. I get he’s contracted with a corporate security team and is issued a firearm - that’s not too crazy. But the fact he charged in with the first line to an obviously unsafe and unstable environment is a hard No. the fact he yells about setting up a triage/medical tent “to the left” as he’s at ground zero of the scene right before some rubble wipes out a guy is a Hard fucking No. The fact the black bitch encourages him to keep up and charge in with the front line into the wreckage itself is just bafflingly stupid. Medical first responders never charge in first unless they’re also dual role fire and operating primarily with the fire department. We stage close enough to the scene but also far enough away to not endanger ourselves. And we sure as fuck don’t go running in balls out regardless of if we’re part of some contracted security team or combat medic. If something happens to the medic that’s a massive ripple effect problem that can be easily avoided but not acting like a drooling retard wannabe hero. A combat medic is a trained infantryman who has cross roled into medic. And they are trained specifically in combat medicine which is trauma and not medical. And that “combat medic” certification does not transfer to the civilian side because it’s a stripped down course. They are not “Paramedics”, they leave at best as an EMT. Often times this is a grey area that unless stated in the story, you can assume it works exactly as they say. After all, it is science fiction. Take for example in Invincible. Because those “combat” style contracts are a joke, anon. Kuwait was either hang out on the base doing medical screens for the servicemen or driving point cars in convoys and playing bodyguard. That’s what there is, and the money isn’t worth it so I didn’t do it long. The border patrol was a bit better but there was nothing combat related to that. Offshore is where the money and work-life balance is, and if you want to do contract medic stuff that’s where the goal should be.
