I recently re-watched Season 4 and the huge dead weight of so many shitty plotlines really tanked it for me, personally. Trinity himself is still great, but he might as well be a subplot to the Batista/La Guerta romance main plot nobody asked.

Season 5 is honestly my favorite because I love the Lumen plotline and the subplots are abnormally strong. There being 5 guys to discover and kill made it so the main plot didn't have a lot of dead time. The Santa Muerte stuff is much more interesting than S3's skinner. Even the continued Batista/La Guerta story is better.

I was surprised on my re-watch how comparatively mild Doakes was when he wasn't raging about something. He has a good guy for Deb and La Guerta and surprisingly compassionate. He even calmed down on Dexter for a few episodes in Season 2. You know, when he thought Dexter's secret was heroin, he just gave him a little tough love on getting better. In this household, Doakes is a peach.
