Only people worth a damn watch his movies. Lanthimos just copies French cinema and translates it to Greek whereas Ikonomidis has a pure Greek style of film that is very enjoyable. Lanthimos himself knows he's a hack but is just enjoying the ride. I bet he's having a lot of fun finding new ways to degrade and humiliate Emma Stone though. Americans may not get this but Greeks thrive on passive aggression and being two-faced. He probably tells her how great of an artist and actress she is to her face and then laughs at how she degrades herself on his command behind her back. It's really embedded into Greek culture. Greeks have a fetish for humiliating themselves and others and having low tolerance for said humiliation and mockery while thriving on causing it to themselves and others.
