I haven't watched any of Wednesday but I've watched a lot of the sitcome and the two 90s movies.
The sitcom is mostly just wholesome fun and the two movies are above average 90s sitcom movie adaptations. They're pretty good and have a great cast at least.
If you are a teenage girl you will probably be bored though.

The 60s sitcom is the most faithful to the original comic strips and is nothing like the modern Wednesday TV show, although I only watched the first couple episodes of season 1. The 90s movies also retconned a lot of stuff, like making Uncle Fester Gomez's brother, when originally he was Morticia's Uncle. In fact, the original lore was that Gomez was a weedy spoilt rich boy from old money in Spain and a hypocrondriac, and it was only when he met Morticia that he became the virile lotherio we know in the stories. All of the Addams Family dark image and love of the macabre comes from Morticia, not Gomez Addams.

I'm not defending her change in character from s1 but teen girls go through a lot of complicated feelings. She wasn't written for us in s2. Her irl audience is all the confused girls in high school who think they have it all figured out. She was tearing up when snakeboy confronted her at the summer camp. She felt remorse

The 60s show is unfathomably based. Just know that the Addams family from the 60s were all very nice, wholesome, loyal people who simply didn't fit in to regular and normal society because they don't realize that they're different. Would unironically let Gomez invest and lose all of my money, then have him pay me back 50 times over because another company he invested in massively profited with the demise of the one all my money went to, and the old chap would generously share the returns with me.

Did we watch the same movie? The movie portrays them as being in the right compared to the intolerant campers and staff who are trying to force them to change who they are.
Ok sure setting fires and shit during the finale is technically villainous behaviour, but in the framing of the move it isn't. They don't receive any consequences for what they did for example. They just get to rush off to conclude the Debbie plot

Of course they were trying to force change. The whole point is how backwards the family is and the counselors are doing their job and trying to fix it. In any other film this would be seen as a good thing, but because it is Wednesday and Pugsley it is seen as a bad thing. They had a similar plot in the series when the kids first went to school. As for them getting away with it, that's part of the joke. The same thing happened in the first movie where they had an overly bloody play in school and only their family enjoyed their scene. You could argue that Calvin destroying his school showed how school is evil because nothing bad happens to Calvin despite him clearly being in the wrong with your logic.

You are insane. Going back to the 60s the main theme of the Adams family is they are good people despite their weirdness and that contorting yourself to fit into the norms is unimportant if you are kind, tolerant and loving.

Of course they are antagonists, jackass. It is only shown as bad though because they are backwards with things and find traditional fairytales to be horror movies. The majority of children wouldn't. The same thing happened in the show, only it was reading them a story instead of them watching a movie.
>child never watched the movie and it shows
They didn't just try to change them because of nothing, it took a good bit of messing up on the kid's end before that. Or, did you miss the part where Pugsley intentionally shot and killed an endangered bird during archery? The fact that you are too stupid understand that even a villain can be shown in the light and that the protagonists usually are is what is embarrassing.

She was Morticia's mother in the original comic, and initially Charles Addams gave her maiden name as Frump when they were developing the 60s show, which is also Morticia's maiden name. For some reason this was changed during its run, probably when they wrote the episode where they explain Gomez and Morticia's meeting, and they had Margaret Hamilton (who was the Wicked Witch in Wizard of Oz) as a guest star, so they probably wanted to write a part for her. She's been changed back to Morticia's mother for some of the other adaptations.

None of them even had names. Only Morticia and Wednesday a couple years before the TV show was made when they realeased some merchandise from the comic. Charles Addams worked on the TV show though and and the sitcom is faithful to the comics in as much as the Addams Family were a inverted version of stereotypical American family and didn't exist in some spooky supernatural universe.

It's the same with basically every modern adaptation. Everyone on the internet pretends like they're experts, and deeply offended by any changes to the source material. True, but this generally happens most when new adaptations make obviously terrible changes from source material. If a change is good its usually accepted, even if its a retcon.
These people know the change is terrible, but can't articulate why exactly. The easiest solution to this in an argument is to go to wikipedia to use the source material as an argument instead.
