A lot of that is mentioned in the books. For the movies you've just got to streamline a lot of exposition.
And its also a little inconsistent as the series develops since Rowling didn't start writing the books with an end game in mind.
Every time there is a new prime minister of the UK, or new Minister of magic, they go and introduce themselves to the muggle PM. Or if there's some happening that might become noticeable to the muggle world. Hogsmead is the only all wizard settlement in all of england. Everyone else lives in mixed communities and secret little enclaves. SIrius Black's house is in the middle of london.
Most wizards go off an get a wizard job. When you can just apparate or use the flue powder you don't need to worry about a commute.
And yes, hogwarts is a real place that exists on the map of the world, but you'd have a hard time flying a plane and landing there because its got all kind of protective charms that make it effectively invisible to muggles. Even powerful wizards can't get directly in or out of hogwarts.
For the most part wizards live among normal people, but they go off to work and maintain a mostly secret life.
But when Harry's mom and aunt petunia meet snape as a kid they had been warned his family was "weird."
And there are plenty of half blood and muggle born wizards at hogwarts that it implies there's a lot of cross pollination.
When harry goes into Sirius's childhood bedroom he's surprised that he has pinups of muggle chicks from muggle magazines pinned to his wall with unbreakable charms so his muggle hating parent's couldn't rip them off.
