It's time to admit they were good.

Exactly. Say what you want about The Hobbit, at least they had soul unlike Rings of Power. Amazon shills will do anything to discredit The Hobbit trilogy, but Jackson put his heart and soul into it without forcing some politics into it like ROP.

Overton window shift

Classic example of "they're not as good as the masterpieces that came before them, therefore they're absolute dogshit" mentality.

They're definitely more flawed than the LotR trilogy, but I really enjoyed visiting that world again, and overall they're perfectly fine fantasy/adventure movies. And little did we know they would be the last epic fantasy movies we would ever get before the woke era ruined everything. That makes me appreciate them even more. 8/10 to the first two and 7/10 to the last.

I've been shitting on the Hobbit trilogy since 2012. I shit on Rings of Power too.

>Jackson put his heart and soul
Lol, no he didn’t. He was forced to make them by the shitty, pants-on-head, and retarded WB execs.
The movies are utter shit with a small handful of good scenes (and a few good deleted scenes). It’s better just to read the book instead.

LotR, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones all had the same meta progression, it’s hilarious
>some guy has a creative vision and creates a trilogy of beloved, critically acclaimed movies
>creator comes back years later to make a sequel/prequels that aren’t received nearly as well but they have their fans
>IP gets acquired by gigacorp studio that shits out a real turd and everyone realizes that maybe the other stuff wasn’t that bad all along
Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather watch Crystal Skull over the third Hobbit movie again but holy shit are both not nearly as bad as rangz or the dilator of destiny

Not as bad as people describe, the first film is even good, but still a total mid even in comparison with the LOTR trilogy. The 3rd film is a complete cartoon filler except for the beginning and the end.

No you bunch of fags need to stop with that, same shit with the Star Wars Prequel, no the fact that movies are in their worst period ever does not mean that bad movies of yesterday are now good.

They're awful. I really can't think of anything redeeming about them. The pacing is all over the place. Everything feels rushed even though nothing happens. The effects are horrible and the weird lighting gives me an actual headache. The acting even is just boring. And then stretching the third movie into a massive battle was a totally boneheaded move.

No, just because RoPe is absolute dogshit that doesn´t mean the Hobbit movies were good. That plot did not require 3 movies, a romance between an invented character and a dwarf or CGI Legolas doing CGI Legolas stuff. Corporate greed just ruins everything.

>INB4 LOTR had a lot of changes from the book too

STFU, LOTR changes are made out of the necessity of adapting to a more stylized medium. Stuff like Arwen replacing Glorfindel or cutting off Tom Bombadil fall into that category. You have seen the Eagles arguments, there would be no end of threads questioning Glorfindel for not joining the fellowship or asking why introduce an OP character like that and then just not use him.

Similarly the eye of Sauron thing is made for the sake of visually representing Sauron´s oppressive presence as an antagonistic evil force. Tolkien books are very descriptive (some would argue that even excessively) so he had tools to convey abstract ideas and emotions in ways visual mediums like movies can not. The eye is both a simplification as well as a visual representation of those things that can´t be described or would be lost by resorting to extensive exposition.

All in all the changes in LOTR are made with the objective of respecting Tolkien´s vision while the changes in the Hobbit are made by marketing teams that care for statistical data regarding social issues and trends. And don´t even get me started on RoPe which is not even an adaptation of anything to begin with so it´s truly and utterly worthless.
