Is Neon Genesis Evangelion judaistic?
How much of a role does it play in the story? Why are the japanese so obsessed with jewish mysticism?
Anonymous No.213767236
they are obsessed with all other religions and their elements because their own has no substance

The guy who created NGE admitted he just borrowed the symbolism and imagery from judeo-christian mythology just to make the show seem to have more depth than it did.

Anyway tonnes of fictional works have borrowed heavily from greek, roman, indian, etc etc mythology and the bible for decades for the same reason, it's hardly unique to NGE.

The Jews are one of the factions in the show. They are not portrayed in a good light.

you know how white people get crappy tattoos of Asian text which they don't understand, just because it looks cool? NGE is basically the reverse of that.

Because in the west we went through a phase of secularizing all fields of thought and removing spirit from it. But this never happened totally in nip land, they always think of things primarily in spirit. When you become a storyteller the 'spirit' of things makes sense at first metaphorically and then taken to its logical extreme, it becomes literal as you realize 'character development' is the exact same kind of thinking as spiritual development. So when a japanese guy wants to express a spiritual idea but they only have jap symbols or buddhist/Shinto imagery they look for a more universal equivalent and more often than not they will land on Kabbala/jewish mysticism andd Hebrew. Off the top of my head the villain in the Sailor Moon manga speaks Hebrew, the shin mengamai tensai games reference it, final fantasy names enemies after it and a guy is literally called "sephiroth" and Neon Genesis uses it everywhere. Sometimes people notice and call it 'gnostic' but they only have that impression due to the ignorance of what the stuff means and theyre applying dogmas out of fear.
pic related in sailor moon Queen beryl speaks Hebrew as a deep cut to imply shes very old.

If you want a funky religion you just mix together Gnosticism, Zoroastrianism and Vedism

The Kabbalah looks like a video game skill tree.
