Written and directed by Chatrichalerm Yukol, a prince in the Thai royal family, the film was made with the support of Thailand's Queen Sirikit, with real sets covered in gold and jewels of the royal family.

Runtime cut from 5 hours to 2 for western audiences. I couldn’t imagine that let alone 30 minutes cut from the film. Wouldn’t recommend watching that. The five hour cut is the cut that actually ran in Thailand.
