That entire monologue was trash.
>Hey nemesis, let me tell you about my feelings and moralise at you about how you upset me, while lives are on the line and you're trying to take over the world.>Because your opinion of me matters SOO MUCH, my entire identity relies on your approval! or at least grudging acceptance! wont you pretty please stop bullying me cuz im a human just like you! except i can dodge bullets and fly!Its the equivalent of the South Park trope of the kids saying "today, i learned something." Explaining character growth without actually displaying it. Narrating your personal growth, not visualizing it.
This dialogue, its slightly repulsive to me on a fundamental level. It's effeminate, its anti-stoic, it's the kind of writing i'd expect a woman who lived a silver spoon life with minimal conflict to cook up. And no wonder he didn't like it, but he's not mature or articulate enough to express it, he also doesn't have the fame Cavill had to be able to throw his weight around, and he wasn't confident enough to tell Gunn that his script was trash here.
Gunn has definite talent, but he's got crippling weaknesses that are getting exposed more and more, the more artistic freedom he seems to get. Maybe the hollywood Soi-effect is setting in hard on him?
