How the hell did something this kino flop?

It wasn’t very good. I saw it recently so I’m an expert authority. The art style was cool, they got Mike Mignola to design it. And the theme song that plays is cool. But the characters are all lame, lots of unfunny humor, a very trite and cliche plot. It’s just so much worse than any other Disney movie.

Last time I watched it, I was shocked by how rushed the pacing felt. I’ve heard on here that the story was supposed to be divided into 2 movies and it definitely shows. There is painfully little adventuring in this adventure movie.

I rented this from my local library when I was a kid and I enjoyed it so much I kept renting and rewatching it every month for a while.

I have to say that this is exceptionally better than the first one. While the first has that premium animation quality, the story sucks ass, while Milos return looked like a Saturday morning cartoon, it actually covered multiple interesting fantasy stories.

yeah, that and the various expedition vehicles and equipment. Seems to me the movie would make more sense if it continued to focus more on magi-tech robot monsters. Maybe with the part where they actually get to Atlantis being about finding and activating some advanced sub to take out the giant sea monster and return to the surface, have them fight magic robots and giant insects in the ruins of the city on they way.

Really the actual atlanteans are completely unnecessary. I mean Kida is hot but you could leave them a complete mystery and still have a pretty good movie I think

I like this movie, but frankly a movie like this has no reason to exist and disney realized that very fast.
The people who are going to see a disney movie don't want to watch a movie where someone gets murdered by a plane propeller, and the people who want to watch an animated movie with more grit and sexy girls were watching anime.
