Maybe it's cringe to reference a trannyboxd review but I thought it was funny and spot on. Not a direct quote but basically Garland thought he was making Come and See but ended up with JCPenney Has Fallen.

I just personally felt its heart was in the wrongest possible place
>war photographers... LE BAD
War photographers aren't even in the top 1000 worst people in the media so I found the "bro these people are so callous they will photograph their dying mentor as they're dying" scene incredibly wrongheaded. Feels like he really wanted something to say about this topic and had absolutely nothing.

So the only real qualms I have about the movie are these: Lee survived the final shootout, right? She urged the newbie to wear kevlar at the start of the movie. She must have been wearing kevlar and thus survived. So why did the fat black guy bleed out, why wasn't he wearing body armor?
>>213794329
The newbie was reacting to the first time she saw a dead body and to the first time she saw someone get killed in front of her. Perfectly natural.

It wasn't "war journalists are the worst", it was more about the mindset needed to exist in that world, and the huge disparity between the personalities of the people telling the stories (twats) versus the stories they're telling (gut-wrenching stories that remind people why we should be kind).
You can go further and the journalists represent the media in general with their parasitic nature on any story. It doesn't matter how they personally feel or what effect telling the story will have, they just want the money/attention/acclaim to be the ones to monetise it.

Couldn't agree more. Coming from a writing POV, Alex Garland is a goddamn wash up. Case in point w/ three movies: Annihilation, written and directed by, could not caprure the allure of the original book. Men... seriously, half of your audience are men, and you basically made a movie making men creepy as fuck. Civil War... Jesus fucking Christ, Alex, your TDS is so strong, you must jack off w/ your angry tears. Nothing here but shitty background of a despot breaking up the US by winning a third term (constitutional amendment overturned), Texas and California are a union (you know this is bullshit now), the Confederacy is alive and far more diverse than ever, and I didn't get a popcorn bucket to cum in as I watch DC get FUCKING LEVELED

Stupid LARP movie.

The entire premise of the "War" in this movie is too vague to take seriously.

Nothing is 'grounded in reality' to give the conflict any clout. As if the director wanted to keep things ambiguous as to not trigger anyone.

attempting some commentary about how photojournalism is necessary in it's exploitation of tragedy without actually being brave enough to exploit even a simulacrum of something real.
there's CoD campaigns with more balls than this movie.

Decent flick. It's enjoyable to watch. If you're going in thinking it's muh based nazis taking over the senate, though, you're a fag.

It's like a zombie movie crossed with Salvador. It's a kinda based format, wish it had a bit more bollocks though. 8/10.

Wait til you find out what civil wars look like in the modern age. All they did was move the setting from "African country you don't know" to America.

I loved it
Episodic road trip through the apocalypse. one of my fave genres. loved the "capturing the perfect photo" goal and the fact theyre all obvious adrenaline junkies.
the third act is bonkers and something you have to totally give into and suspend your disbelief for but if you do it works just ecstatically. soundtrack also great.

some top tier autism in this thread not understanding the government is blatantly right wing

Could have easily made it a half hour longer with more little vignettes or episodes of life in the divided land. I liked the format of the movie.

I don't know how you make a movie about a US civil war feel so low stakes and boring but Garland pulled it off. Feels like it was written by self inserting failed journalists
