I think what cemented my hatred for hard magic systems was The Name of the Wind, in which a the MC, who reads like a redditor's self insert, is so much better than everyone at magic essentially because he's heckin' good at science (did you know that energy is... conserved!?). He also spends half the book following around a girl who fucks every guy in a 100 mile radius except him, but I guess that's a coincidence.

ASOIAF's worldbuilding is 100% stolen from other authors. The plot is heavily inspired by real history. There are no real answers nor any deapth to any of it (its the literary equivalent of the mystery box bullshit). Also, there is no grand overarching theme tying it all. No higher message, no point to be made. It was all carried by passable dialog, interesting characters and some intriguing setpieces. I doubt people will still be reading and debating ASOIAF in 30 years. It will be a footnote in history as one of Tolkien's imitators.

Season 5. There was the fact that this was where the show would catch up to the books. Five seasons and nothing but a handful of chapters that George would eventually scrap anyways.

A part of it was also seeing the reaction online to Sansa consummating her legal marriage that she agreed to with Ramsey Bolton. But this was ASoiaF's audience now, idiots who would eat dumb and inconsistent character decisions and then clap and cheer for more. And it catered to them hard. And they'd only point to season 8 as being bad too.

I've become increasingly curious about it over the years, especially with the recurring mindset among a lot of book fans that the author doesn't owe you shit. While there is no legal obligation i've always felt there was an implied moral one, considering they support the author to continue living while paying for an incomplete product. And while they have no legal recourse obviously, people will change behaviors when this type of thing repeats, especially when they're told not only that they have no recourse but are wrong to hate that it's happened and to shut up about it. Literature was better when publishers were selective and had stricter quality control, now that literally anyone can publish a book we've been flooded with billions and billions of trash and it turned off people with critical thinking. Jaime will likely kill Cersei. She has a prophecy to be killed by the Valoqar, which has messed her up for life. Jaime hates her, and he would never go back to be nice to her. Regardless, Cersei won't survive long after her imprisonment and certainly not be queen again.

Dany was always going to be the big villain. GRRM wanted to write the evil dark lord in a way the audience would sympathize and understand them rather than just say "he is bad, wears black, and is evil". You know her story, you see why she is that way, and you see why Tyrion is evil and monstrous too. Tyrion definitely isn't coming out as a handsome funny dwarf hand of the king bullshit.
