Basically waking up at like 3-4am putting on a pot of coffee and watching something mood appropriate. If you use letterboxd for the social aspect you are fucked imo. You are ruining the joy of sharing movies with others slowly over time. I’ve had some relationships where you slowly discover who each other are by dropping little hints about movies we found funny or adored in some type of way to each other and hoping they pick up on the hint and say something about it. I see people are still repeating the same old myth that Intolerance was an apology from Griffith for his racism in A Birth of a Nation. I've seen even movie critics like Ebert repeat it. Not only was Intolerance not an apology, it was an accusation against his critics. He even takes a jab at them by putting the moral puritans in the Modern segment on "the wrong side of history". For Griffith, it was his critics that were the intolerant ones.

Mean Streets is a good movie. Scorsese didn't turn into Scorshitty until Goodfellas which felt dry and anemic. But then I found Casino to be basically a better, meatier version of Goodfellas and Bringing Out The Dead just excellent ! although that was a Schrader collaboration). But the rest of what he did from that period and on is quite mediocre to shit (Irishman is borderline incompetent to the point I thought Scorshitty got senile, although after it Killers of the Flower Moon was actually decently made so I blame Netflix for the Irishman awkwardness, Killers wasn't really a good movie either tho, Scorsese focused on all the wrong elements narratively).

Sure, bro, whatever satisfies your obsession. Average Paul film is just Bresson plagiarismo extravaganza with some of the shittiest last acts I've witnessed in my life (Hardcore is straight up parody shit).
And btw, Scorsese is one of the most consistent directors of all time; there is no "Scorshitty". His most mid material is like a 6/10.

The Departed is embarrassing so is The Irishman. /tv/ fellates Silence but it's extremely bland. Shutter Island is a melodramatic (in poor taste) Cabinet of Doctor Caligari remake.

Marty never made anything as good as Mishima, American Gigolo, Affliction, or Cat People. I was merely pointing out that most of his best films were written by Schrader and thus have his distinct auteurial touch. And I like the ending to Hardcore, dont know why people make such a fuss about it.

I didn't care for Mean Streets personally, it's a little too rough around the edges. In general I like Scorsese though, dont get me wrong. After Hours and King of Comedy are some of my favorite movies.

>The Departed is embarrassing so is The Irishman
These films are not similar in any way, The Irishman is an awful, poorly made film while The Departed is as good of an American adaptation of Internal Affairs was ever going to get.
>Marty never made anything as good as Mishima, American Gigolo, Affliction, or Cat People
He made Taxi Driver, King Of Comedy, Mean Streets, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas; all of which are as good or better and certainly far more influential.

I legitimately cannot comprehend anyone watching Cat People and thinking it was good. I even watched it at the kinoplex. I think it is just Kinskifag’s infatuation with Kinski that makes him believe he watched something special.

For the person saying that cinemas are a lost cause some threads back, I totally disagree. Not to be too much of a vibefag, but I can literally feel the feelings of everyone in the room. It affects the movie that is being projected. It’s a totally different experience than simply watching a film at home.

They won't ever be, it's metroplexes that are going to die. The future of cinema is a retvrn to smaller two or three theater cinemas.

I just got back from work doing shipment for a kinoplex in Arizona. They took the garbage out from last night so it only slightly smelled like spoiled buttermilk.

Wouldn’t it be great if cinema distilled itself into pure art and the only ones who kept the medium alive were those who only ever saw it as art. We’d be like hermit cavemen watching shadows dance on the wall. The good ending…
