If you thought the finished film was bad enough, the original script had Gaga kill the black lady from the first film and pretty much replace Arthur and not fall in love with him at all but be some feminist dyke who wanted to usurp him as Joker and the sequel would've been her own twisted version of the first film. They realized pretty early on Gaga can't act for shit to the degree necessary to pull this off so they scrambled to add more Joker. Arthur being raped was a last-minute thing they added because once they cut most of Gaga's scene, they had pretty much nothing left and scrambled for a reason to degrade and have Arthur killed because they genuinely wanted to curb the movement he inspired even though that movement was dead by 2020 at best. In another rewritten scene, after the massive cutting of Gaga's role, Harley would've told Arthur she aborted his baby and heard that the guards ass-raped him on the demand of his own lawyer who thought it was the only way to get him to be sane again LOL. A lot of other fucked up shit like he was going to be visited by Harley in the final scene and castrated/beheaded while she cradled his head and sang. They also would've had a sex scene between Arthur and that Ricky kid for whatever fucking reason. Joaquin/Phillips were in deep psychosis while making this fucking abomination, that's for sure.
