Seriously, everything post Plastic Beach sounds like a joke. The production is bad, the lyrics are bad, and all the featured artists sound like they're being forced to record at gunpoint. I remember first listening to Momentz feat De La Soul expecting a song on par with Feel Good Inc and just being utterly disappointed and confused with the children's music I heard

There's some good tracks here and there but then again I'm the kind of weirdo that really liked the Now Now.
What's depressing about gorillaz today is the complete lack of identity.
I'm not saying they should've been frozen in their 00's edgyness but they should've done something. All the art and videos around cracker island felt so bland, so boring. Where's the in character interviews? Where's the flash games? They try stuff but they don't commit to the bit like 2-D's shitty tiktoks. It feels half-assed cause it probably all is someone's nepo baby nephew who doesn't give a shit running it all.

Desolé is one of the best tracks they've ever produced. When I saw them live, as many people were singing it as Feel Good Inc and Clint Eastwood. Momentary Bliss was hype as fuck too and made me reconsider it.

I mean yes he was clearly the key for the debut as was Dangermouse for DD. Their signature sound is all over those albums. But there was no big production collaborator for PB and that still ended up being a good album, maybe not as good as the first two but good enough. And old rarities where it was solo Damon production like Mr Softys Balloon Race were good. So I'm just wondering where the magic went. He probably just doesn't have the hunger or drive anymore to do anything exceptional

I wish a documentary like Bananaz existed for the making of Demon Days and Plastic Beach. Bananaz was a real treat though as a former diehard fan

Plastic Beach was them toning down the edginess and it worked while still feeling true to the characters. Modern Gorillaz has 2-D and Noodle looking older than ever while Murdoc somehow looks like a younger twink and turned into an emotional pussy, going against his entire character.

I remember seeing that block of Gorilla's videos and the daft punk movie when it was on Toonami that one afternoon. Life changing experience... I didn't even understand what I was hearing/seeing but I loved it.
