Genuinely, what do people possibly see in this movie for those that claim it’s QT’s best? It’s not bad, but it’s pretty unremarkable in such a way that it seems odd for anybody to feel strongly opinionated about it.

Jackie Brown herself is Tarantino's weakest protagonist so I've never understood why so many claim this is his strongest film. I can't even remember how this film ends and I've seen it twice.

Interesting but realistic characters and relationships, with characteristically 90s Tarantino dialogue, as opposed to the cartoon characters Tarantulino wrote in his later flicks. No cartoon violence either.

It's a shame he didn't make 2-3 more films this good instead of le Western set in WWII Europe and fucking dentist and black guy kill slaveowners by Warner Brothers cartoon department.

It is the closest thing Tarantino came to make an actual movie instead of a quip fest full of references to better movies, sure it is still Tarantino trying to do blaxploitation but at least it's not only that.

It's basically the only good part of DP, and it is genuinely good, but the chase in French Connection and To Live and Die in LA mog it. I haven't seen Bullit though.

Same. All I remember when I watched it is that it was just good enough to keep watching, but none of the actual details. Which among Tarantino films especially should be an indictment because most of his films are typically pretty adept at having some scene or another that infects me with permanent brain worms.

>At the same time his style isn't overbearing and ridiculous as it is in Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill
>Jackie and Max's relationship is a rare look at a new romance between two older people, particularly two that are washed up and even "ugly' by Hollywood standards
>Is a hangout film, something Tarantino talks about but has never delivered on since Death Proof and OUATIH suck
>Sam Jackson gives an iconic performance as one of the most realistic criminals ever portrayed
Besides all of that it's the same reasons anyone likes a Tarantino flick except this time he actually manages to perform, it's like when a Stephen King book is good.

Excellent, well-stated points, anon. Jackie and Max's relationship is genuinely touching, surprising for Tarantula to have written. I have never been able to understand the appeal of OUATIH either.

To be fair the concept of that relationship was written by Elmore Leonard who kinda sucks but when he's great, he's great. His other novel, Swag, had two of the best written relationships I've ever seen, one platonic and one romantic.

Brother, if you think QT’s movies are a quipfest, I seriously question whether you even know what a quip is. This is an absurd criticism to direct at somebody who is particularly known for having characters engage in unfiltered rants and awkwardly natural conversations about random bullshit. The kind of person that hates QTs style of dialogue is exactly the kind of person that loves excessive quip writing and feels off-put by the lack of them.

The people that made movies during the golden age didn't grow up watching movies/tv. They lived lives and saw theater. Everything they experienced was something they actually lived. Everyone working in dreidelwood today did not live lives they watched movies/tv. Most of what they experienced was not real. This is all they have to draw from to make new art. That's why everything sucks. However bad you think things are, it's worse than that.

NTA, but the flaw of the rating system is clearly evident here. Toy Story 2 is simply an okay movie, not even better than the first entry, but because more critics have reviewed it, but none feel it’s honest to declare it’s outright garbage, its reputation is wildly inflated. RT needs baseball HoF type meta voter behavior for its rating system to be effective. Basically critics/voters who have the self awareness to vote against certain players making the HoF — not because they don’t believe they deserve to be in — but because they don’t believe they deserve to be inducted on the first ballot, or because they believe they don’t deserve to be unanimously approved.

QT's dialogue is absolute garbage because all of it is nothing more than what QT thinks sounds cool. Every character he's ever written for talks exactly like QT's top gun rant in my best friend's birthday. So no, they're not exactly "quippy" but they are closely related to that type of gay shit and he's clearly never grown beyond a shitty amatuer movie he did almost 40 years ago. Whedon and Tarantula's dialgoue are in the exact same vein of shit and you're not any better than a marvel fan for lapping it so stop sucking your own dick
