I genuinely love Tron as an IP but as a franchise it's literally never done well outside of the first movie and I'm baffled why Disney keep giving it another crack every 15 or so years
Currently replaying Tron 2.0 for the first time in like 20 years and having a blast

Tron and the Matrix were good movies, but their concepts didn't age well.

Tron has always been just moderately successful but never enough to actually start a big franchise. Disney only revives the property when they run out of ideas and options. In the early 2010s Disney wanted another Pirates of the Caribbean and scrounged through their IPs until they found Tron, but then the movie just did alright and Disney dropped it for Star Wars. Now though, Disney's movies across the map are flopping and they once again scrounged through what they have until finding Tron again.

Like the other two movies,... it probably won't meet expectations, but maintain a cult following.

It'll succeed on it's own merits, but be a box-office flop where Disney will store the IP back in the freezer for another 20 years, until their push for more diverse-faggorty and DEI-niggerisms blow up in their face trying to make Pedo-Poopinders an socially acceptable demographic....

NIN is ok, but I don't think he got that spark anymore, from when he worked with David Fincher or wrote songs like Only. DP ost was a legit 10/10 and what little we heard in the trailer for Ares doesn't give me hopes.

Semi-agree.... but you can't expect Reznor to be like how he was back in the 90s, covered in mud and destroying his equipment.

I just saw his show in Vancouver. He played a good set, but for a group pushing into their 60s that 'rage' or 'spark' is no longer there. Now he plays the part of the composer of his own sympathies with synthesizers; and just plays his mainstay hits to please the crowd. Freese and Finch hardly contribute to anything new Reznor is doing, as he leans in more with Ross and whatever DJ talent he co-opts to keep his "NIN" brand viable.

Don't get me wrong, I do dig the "(nu)NIN",.... but we'll never get the 90s NIN back ever again either.

Yes it will. Tron Legacy was lightning in a bottle. Daft Punk's soundtrack and the stunning visuals it unironically played like the greatest music video ever made. Yes, the acting was wooden and the plot forgettable, but as a peak music video experience, nothing else comes close.
