>Its the perfect organism because it has a convoluted lifecycle, is sneaky, and has acid blood
>This is only really a problem since you're trapped in a metal coffin in outer space.
>And have no weapons.
>Or nukes.
>But dude, listen, it's the ultimate survivor. Because it can kill about eight or nine unarmed humans.

>WY doesn't care about their super important research laboratory going dark and drifting into an asteroid field
>no ATC wondering where their hauler ship is going
>ship is flying out of control, scrapes a fuel tank and detonates it but somehow drifts into the hangar and lands unscathed
>acid blood burns a hole through 30 levels and vents the station but the station is also air tight
>security forces confirmed to kill first alien MIA while our MC kills 10 aliens with gun shes never used before
>acid blood doesn't splatter when shot in 0G, preferring to sit in the center of a hallway instead
>alien grows full size in 7 minutes (literally 7 minutes)
>acid blood can't penetrate roof of elevator
>elevator that needs gravity to work IN A SPACE STATION
>denied the slime breastfeeding scene
>manual release for cargo pod located in the cargo pod and not the ship (???)

still a good movie though, like 7/10 for not making me actively hate it, and 9/10 for the atmosphere / setting

Although this scene contains the WORST cut in the entire film (the ridiculous cut where they take the obvious prop head, balance it and in the next shot it's Ian Holm), Ash's description of the alien is haunting, and great writing. This anon >>213837575, for example, is full of shit. I remember being a kid and taking it at face value: the alien is literally immortal on top of the rest of it (an intuition that other anons have observed on this forum over the years). The fact that this isn't literally true is beside the point. It sounds scary. Ash is trying to scare and demoralize them. He is still trying to carry out his mission.

Remember his mission. He is still trying to discourage and demoralize them any way he can, while he's still active. Try if at all possible to preserve the specimen. Tell them that it is literally impossible for them to kill it, maybe. Try that. He does a pretty good job with the little bit of time that they give him. Parker is quietly wigging out just a bit listening to him, Ripley is pissed at him (it), and Lambert has a off-character quiet, peaceful moment where she intuits how Ash really thinks and feels. He really is a cold, unemotional robot, deeply contemptuous of the species that made him. "Delusions of morality" is a very succinct rejection of any value in the human condition itself, or at least an indication of its hypocrisy which humans in distress aren't interested in listening to.

It's the best and most creative "rubber monster suit" ever made, but at the end of the day it was still a rubber monster suit. A human being wore it. Three, really, including stunt men (their versions were a bit more squat and "normal", not the main Bolaji costume). The costume and creature have opposible thumbs. (I think there's like a sort of sixth finger, another pinky finger maybe, I'd have to look).

I think the thing is the Alien is supposed to be an apex predator, which it kind of is. Ignoring Aliens for a second, the egg they found must have been on that planet for decades or centuries, yet it was ready to go. It also didn't need a specific type of life to find it, its lifecycle (probably) works with any organic lifeform. Then its pretty smart, can understand simple machines at least, it doesn't appear to need to eat, and its body is pretty sturdy. The acid blood is just a plus, normally this thing isn't getting hit. Sure you can nuke it but we're not even sure thats enough to fully kill them, and they are probably radiation proof. I agree that WY was jerking them off a bit but they are pretty brutal, imagine instead of seal team six you send in a bunch of aliens, the whole city might get taken down.

Do people not really understand why Ash calls the alien a "perfect organism"? He admires the creature because it's bio-mechanical, a machine made by some strange combination of nature and super-science. As an android, Ash cannot reproduce and pass down his genes or even his memes. The existence of the Alien fills Ash with admiration and awe because it's proof that something similar to him can become independent and survive.

>the weird bio-mechanical parts of the xenomorph: it looks like an insect with tubes sticking out of its body
>the alien's blood being white (just like Ash's blood)
>the alien doesn't really do shit with Jonesy (note how the scenes where it antagonized him were purposefully written out)
>the implications of the glyphs/mural art

The ironic thing about Ash's awe of the xenomorph is that the Alien is still a tool, a vessel for the host infected by the facehugger. The movie all but states that the xenomorph's behavior is Kane's Id come to life, and that it grew increasingly violent due to constantly being met with violence and aggression from the moment it was born.

I find the latter part of your Freudian analysis unsatisfying, but there's enough going on here that it's worth thinking through. The monster started out as a literal phallus-head (Necronom IV), and they had him tone it down just enough (smooth the obvious penis-head) to get it past standards. Likewise the opening of the egg was originally to have been a single slit, but that was too vaginal for the standards people. Giger suggested a variant in which two slits at right angles form a cross shape with four flaps of flesh opening, and thta was enough for them. Giger privately welcomed this as an opportunity to mock christianity. One great big giant pussy that got past the standards people was the hole in the middle of the derelict, where they originally enter. They are very obviously crawling into a huge vagina in that shot.

To your earlier observations, in a commentary track, Ridley suggested that Ash may be sexually frustrated, he may not have "that part". He may be smooth down there, like a Ken doll. Still, he socializes with humans enough to understand the importance of sex (it might have been given a more prominent role in another parallel universe version of the film). When Ash flips out and attacks Ripley's mouth with the rolled-up magazine (right next to all the girly pictures), he has obviously fashioned a crude, replacement phallus. So the first part of your post is reasonable.

I don't care for your latter observations, though. It's the host which is the vessel for the alien, not the alien which is a "vessel" either of the host, or of the facehugger from which it came. Although Ash utters a line which sounds like "Kane's son", it is neither correct nor interesting to posit that the naturally hostile space bug is only being hostile because the humans are after it. On the contrary, it is opportunistic and quietly sneaks up on them on several occasions.

No, it's not that simple, there's lots of angles that are enjoyable to think about. Three short paragraphs are not "an essay". The association of the alien itself with "Kane's Id" is just silly reaching. If you want a film that makes a monster of the Id, look no further than Forbidden Planet, back when psychoanalysis and pop psychology were still in vogue.

It molts extremely quickly and becomes its adult form in mere hours, under four-six hours. After the chest burst, they do an initial search, prepare and dump Kane's body, and immediately rig their gear to try to find it. That's just a few hours. In the sequel, Ripley also states that it killed everybody else in under 24 hours, which makes sense with the timing of events in the first film, starting from the chest burst. Nobody is sleeping or napping, after the chest burst it's full go for something like 12-18 hours.

>but at the end of the day it was still a rubber monster suit. A human being wore it
It was very apparent in the scene where it falls out of it's hiding spot on the shuttle after Ripley attacks it. Clearly just a dude in a suit flailing around.
It worked phenomenal well when it was in the dark, partially obscured. That's what made most of Alien so good.
