the more I watch this the more I'm actually impressed they went through the effort to make sure the background stuff was in the same places in both shots, the show was never meant to be in HD so they didn't have to do that but they did anyway

she was a hardworking mother who genuinely felt horrible in instances where it seemed as if she'd done something wrong, or took someone for granted. MitM is the fucking GOAT cause every character has depth. Lois is no different, she had to put up with a bunch of shit from every single person in her family. the show painstakingly lays out how radically different her parenting style was from when francis was a baby by the time malcolm comes around, a lot of what you disliked about her was simply the reality of the situation she was in. but you don't care about any of that, despite the funniest aspect about Lois' character is she wouldn't even be offended by you. she'd smile at you and tell you in no uncertain terms that you'll understand things better after you've lived for a while more and to try not to take things so personally in the meantime. you should listen to her anon.

I'd agree with this if the finale hadn't made her give a bullshit speech about how she was justified in sending Malcom on a decade-long path of poverty and pain just to teach him a lesson instead of letting him take the well paying "easy" path after everything he's suffered

sweet quads bro. i get what you're saying but, the words that came out of her mouth were from the writers/showrunners. the whole concept of the show was basically making sense of their own suburban upbringing dealing with the weird shame of not measuring up to other families, shit like that, so you have to forgive that desire to want to make it seem like there was some driving force behind it, so of course Lois ends up the mouthpiece for that. going cynical w/ it, maybe part of the point was to paint her similarly to how her mother behaves, and suggest she'd only become more like her mother as malcolm ages, who knows. regardless, Lois is maybe the best female character in any show i've ever seen in terms of being very developed/complicated and it's fun to talk about her.

The show takes a noticeable quality dive when Jamie is born. There are still some gems but other plots feel half baked, especially the Francis stuff that just becomes one joke “what if Francis got beat up by Girl Scouts lol” “What if Francis got raped by a bull”

No, she's definitely bad parent. It's a self fulfilling prophecy, she justifies her shitty behavior because her kids are shittier than her and in turn they resent her and act shitty. I definitely appreciate the depth, but she's an awful person. In the show they even have a flashback where she acts the same way in high school, so her kids definitely didn't make her like that.
