Prom is a meaningless ritual because it occurs right at the end of high school. Naturally, right at the end of high school, everyone goes their separate ways, so there isn't any point or value in keeping in touch with anyone. I had a fine time in high school, but when you're done with it, the point is to put it behind you and move on.
