Most theaters in America (at least) have become very strict about enforcing a "No Singles Policy" in the wake of all the theater mass shootings of the last few years. Try going to a theater by yourself sometime and see just how quickly their security corners you.

If you take a single seat you're you're really taking up three because strangers are not going to want to sit next to you. This buffer seats per paying ticket seat ratio is less impactful with groups.
