I am a brainlet and did not find or care about the deeper meaning in the movie. But i had a lot of fun watching it. Its nice seeing all characters being competent and acting intelligently, but some are simply better than others.
Plus its very memeable

spoiler alert, in the movie's final scene chiguruh finds out "seΓ±or" was the name of the childhood sled the mexican had. he simply yearned for a lost time from youth, and a refreshing beverage.

I honestly don't get the appeal. It's a well made movie but it's boring. Reminds me of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford a bit, you can tell it's a kino movie made by competent people, but it ended up being very dry and lethargic overall.

Yes. The movie ends randomly in a conversation after nothing is resolved which is automatically deep and deconstructive. It makes you feel like a big boy with a high IQ.
at one point the bad guy says "if the rule you follow brought you to this point, of what point was the rule?" which is so psycho and badass. pure fucking joker energy.
You wouldn't get it if you just love CGI and cheap jumpscares. It's a movie for people who love SCIENCE and kicking back in the mancave with some nice hoppy douple IPAs while discussing existentialism.

did you know that the coen bros couldnt afford a composer for the film? that's why there is no music, except for the mariachi band who wandered on set, mid-scene, in mexico. the editor quit during that part of the film, too, so they couldn't edit the band out. very cheap production.

Inspiring. I remember listening to an interview with cast and crew post production. They were asked what's the first purchase they made after being paid. Brolin bought a sports car, Bardem paid off his mother's house. Coen Brothers? He bought a hot meal. Never give up on your dreams

when asked why he made this film, coen bro #1 cites his love of tommy lee jones. his character originally wasnt even supposed to be in the film, but due to jones's success as two-face in batman forever, coen bro #1 knew he had to have him. cormac mccarthy was then forced to rewrite the novel to include the character "old cop man to be played by tommy lee jones only", angering fans until the updated version was renamed "george lucas special edition"

It's marries the polished blockbuster "thriller" with "art" that has a very typical expression of (((a certain kind))) of messaging ("Western myths are actually just a revision of something that was bad, ugly and meaningless", etc)
It's actually kinda bland and flat in its refusal to lean all the way in either direction.
