Because Predator is more of a thriller, the movies build the big fight at the end and since it's always a puny human against this big hunter they need him to kill nearly everyone so you cheer for the victory at the end.

Xenos are more like slashers where there is a back and forth between humans and the creature, there is a constant need for gore but the main characters always escape, that kills the tension. The fact that usually there is multiple creatures makes everything worse since they must kill at least some and then show a bigger one at the end which became such a trope in this series. I blame all of this on Aliens, Cameron fucked the whole atmosphere/lore of the movies with his dumb ideas.

Alien cleares entire rooms and full squads faster than a suicide bomber can, but somehow loses in basically hand to hand combat vs a synth. Friendly reminder that one, ONE, xeno took down not one but TWO predators back to back. At least show her being almost as fucked up as the xeno.

They really dun goofed by showing us the crew of the ship in the first episode. They looked 10x more interesting and acted a lot better than whatever these child synths are. Now you're just left with a 'what could have been'.

Opening scene: Weyland tells David to play music. He doesn't improvise, he plays Wagner. When asked to name himself, he doesn't come up with a name out of thin air, he comes up with David from the statue. He can't invent things on his own, he needs some form of prompt. In Covenant, he's had however long to go through whatever computer systems the Engineers might have had on their ship, and then time to muck around with the black goo. But all he can do is re-create something that already existed (see also the mural of some version of a xenomorph in Prometheus)
And then later, the part where he mixes up Byron and Shelley, should clue the audience in that he's a totally unreliable narrator, whether he intends to lie or just fucks up. He might think he made the xenomorph, but he didn't.

depends what you want out of it, but Hawley shows tend to be slow burns. 4 is probably going to be character development (Nibs getting more and more pissed-off, Wendy listening to the Aliens screaming while Kirsh does experiments on them). Episode 5 is supposedly the big flashback episode that's mostly set on the Maginot and plays out like a regular "Alien" movie, but with whatever scheming and sabotage was going on that led to the crash.
Episode 6 or later should be when the W-Y guys show up on Neverland Island and get shredded by xenos, and 7 or 8 (or both) should be pretty action-packed. Supposedly 8 was very expensive and took a lot of effort to film.

this show is pretty enjoyable so far. i like the indian dude and black guy (the kids) dynamic. good acting. the black yutani guy is probably the the most compelling along with timothy olyphant. red head girl is annoying to look at. new zealand sounding girl is intriguing. still not sold on the whole kids angle but i think they're going to take it somewhere interesting. seems like wendy is infected somehow, so alien might have died but managed to infect her anyway?

set design, sound design, music, all the stuff that makes it feel like something set in the alien universe is top notch. actually superior to anything else apart from alien and aliens. somehow looks superior to prometheus, probably due to less CGI and more reliance on physical props/sets.

by making the xenomorph so easily killed they have pretty much removed the fear that the creature is famous for.

The xenomorphs have only been mildly dangerous since the very first movie. The only reason they're more than a pest is the acid blood, which makes them a hazard on a space ship specifically.
Take away the threat of rupturing the hull and they're not actually dangerous individually to armed and prepared individuals, there's a reason Aliens had to nerf the Colonial Marines by making them put away their smart rifles and rely on small arms.

They're a threat to civilians and spacecraft but not actually that much more dangerous than typical terrestrial predators outside of that which is why every new entry in the franchise has to make up some contrived bullshit to make them dangerous again ie suddenly they're psychic.

Vince Gilligan fooled an entire generation into thinking plodding scenes where nothing happens means its deep or profound in any way. Episode 3 was 90% that. Scenes that go nowhere, as if slow lingering shots are inherently moody on their own with nothing to back them up with. That slowmotion scene must have lasted like 4 minutes and for what? did we really feel any consequences in the scene prior to that? did it have any weight at all?

This is my interpretation too. I assume the very biomechanical aliens from the first 3 movies are more like what a purebred xeno looks like when it follows a proper reproductive cycle. If you want to hate something, you find the most ridiculous reasons. There are other problems with the show than "the hook didn't melt". I'd rather have variety in encounters with xenomorphs than an invincible slasher monster like Freddy or something. The books help with that, they flesh out how the xenos are deadly and dangerous, but if you are prepared/trained/equipped/etc. you have a chance.

His right hand might be real because there are probably a lot of security programs that can detect synthetic vs Organic, or like finger signature type things. He probably has some sort of special data storage in his brain.
