the books are very very good. they deal with the plost on a cosmic scale, spanning eons of time. the pacing is amazing as well (trust me, not hard to get through; it'll keep you hooked).

the show is almost completely different from the books (almost all the similarities are only in the character names lol; but they're still building towards the book plot, hopefully). they had to include a lot of eye candy to pander to a larger audience.
a lot of the physical violence in the show is just a mind-bending conversation with really high stakes in the books

One of my biggest surprises from the show is mommy robot. Objectively speaking, her actress is attractive, but not the type of alien-like beauty that haunts my dreams from a photo alone-- like say Dandario. But her character and acting together-- man. I have repeated fantasies of finding ways to set mommy robot free and then wondering if she would immediately kill me or love me forever like og-cleon. I have not been haunted by an attraction to character like this for a long time. I would watch 10 seasons consisting of pre-streaming network 28 episodes of the show if it was just the Adventures of Mommy Robot and the Cleon boys. You can throw in a little Jared Harris force ghost-- that's cool too. Everything else is bullshit.

I think they needed the three brothers to keep Lee engaged. With the three brothers, it created an interesting dynamic where Terrance Mann and the younger actor, had to coordinate their acting so that they would each play the unique cleon variation as he would "age" through the actors in episodes. That probably introduced an novel acting challenge for the three actors that probably kept them working on the project. Pretty cool dynamic, in addition to the fact that the plot has each subsequent Cleon introducing new variations. Pretty neat acting dynamic.

Good show. Just started watching it. To me it feels like a spiritual successor to BSG but also old SciFi channel shows in general. Bear McCreary seems to be trying to give his BSG work a run for its money as well. What I don't get is how Dawn never seems to learn from the missteps and arrogance of Day, and Dusk always ends up cucked and unable to impart temperance to both Day and Dawn.
