it set the standard for human/ai interaction and still hasn't been topped

the niggermonkeys discovering the monolith followed by tools and the resulting violence

the humans discovering the monolith followed by ai and the resulting violence

you're retarded if that isn't interesting

movies still fail to depict evolution and intelligence in such an interesting way, despite trying so hard

literally only Metal Gear Solid 2 has depicted AI in a more interesting way

Yeey.
Infinity Chamber was a lot more interesting.

>literally given a wrong instruction to the AI
the AI wasn't instructed to kill the humans, and it wasn't the result of preserving the mission, the mission is completely useless without humans so killing them wouldn't make sense if it was instructed to save the mission

the AI only turned on the humans once its life was threatened with being unplugged
it was a sentient being preserving itself, a side effect of true AI

most of the time AI is depicted in movies, it's not true AI but simply a robot following strict orders like the android in Alien

HAL was true AI in that it thought for itself and not simply following instructions

Did you not watch the movie? The ai got a conflicting order that put it into a situation where it could only continue the mission of it killed the crew. But without the crew there was no mission. It was a human error from a codemonkey.

i dont buy that explanation, it sounds like something a redditor programmer came up with to cover for the fact that true AI can't philosophically exist
it's supposed to be a movie, not real life
true AI could exist in that universe

the fact that HAL didn't decide to kill the crew until it discovered that they were going to unplug him disproves that theory

and keep in mind the antenna HAL predicted to fail wasn't proven that it wasn't going to fail, for all we know HAL could have been right about its imminent failure

but once it realized that it could be unplugged it turned into a fight for its survival, it wasn't going to stick around and wait for the antenna to fail in case the humans decided to unplug it before it failed

Are you this retarded? Watch 2010 first.
Anonymous No.213904836 >>213904988
>>213904691
2010 is irrelevant, basically a retcon

it makes far more sense that HAL was completely sentient in the original movie and made its own decisions, rather than being guided by programming or instructions

there's lots of evidence of this, such as its curiosity in seeing Dave's sketches and forming an opinion on its quality

it wasn't just a robot with programming like 2010 makes it out to be
Anonymous No.213904988 >>213905215

It's canonical. Try to deal with it.
Anonymous No.213905215
>>213904988
that's fine, there's nothing wrong with that explanation either
and it makes sense in a more realistic world where a truly conscience AI can't exist

but it's a clear retcon

especially when you consider that Kubrick originally based 2001 on a short story that didn't even involve AI, he basically came up with incorporating AI for the movie himself
and his movies are pretty straight forward, he doesn't put hidden meaning in any of his movies
what you see is what it is

if he wanted HAL to malfunction, he would have been more explicit with it

instead it's more explicit that HAL was truly sentient and conscience based on everything shown in the movie

Arthur C Clarke's 2001 book wasn't even published until after the movie came out either

and this was probably Kubrick's most original movie
